Primero debemos saber que son este tipo de plantas las orquídeas u orquidáceas son una familia de plantas monocotiledóneas que se distinguen por la complejidad de sus flores y por la belleza que estas pueden llegar a tener.

Si bien es cierto que en el mundo la mayoría de las personas prefieren las rosas por ser muy bellas y tener grandes significados, también hay que tener en cuenta la belleza de las orquídeas. Este tipo de flores son muy cultivadas a pesar de la gran complejidad que ello puede implicar y el resultado puede ser impresionante. Tanto es que ya han proliferado gran cantidad de variedades.

Son una de las familias de plantas más amplias es tanto que comprende aproximadamente 25 000 especies o incluso es posible que hasta 30 000. Además, a esta diversidad natural se le suman la existencia de 60 000 híbridos y variedades producidas por los floricultores.

Como sabemos venezuela es un país que se encuentra en América del Sur, destaca por sus atracciones naturales como es el caso de las orquídeas. La especie de orquídea Cattleya Mossiae fue nombrada como Flor Nacional de Venezuela, convirtiéndose en un símbolo ornamental para el país. fue declarada Flor Nacional el 23 de mayo del año 1951. recibió este nombre en homenaje al famoso botánico Willian Cattley que en el año 1818 fue capaz de realizar el primer cultivo de esta orquídea en un invernadero.
As we know, Venezuela is a country that is located in South America, it stands out for its natural attractions such as orchids. The Cattleya Mossiae orchid species was named as the National Flower of Venezuela, becoming an ornamental symbol for the country. It was declared a National Flower on May 23, 1951. It received this name in homage to the famous botanist Willian Cattley, who in 1818 was able to make the first cultivation of this orchid in a greenhouse.
Luego de un largo proceso de cuatro años para la declaración de la Cattleta Mossiae esta orquídea pasó a convertirse en uno de los símbolos nacionales de Venezuela conjuntamente con el Turpial y el Araguaney, de los cuales les prometo les hablaré en otra oportunidad.
After a long process of four years for the declaration of the Cattleta Mossiae, this orchid became one of the national symbols of Venezuela together with the Turpial and the Araguaney, of which I promise I will talk to you another time.
Su floración se suele dar a principios de mayo o abril en época de la primavera. Es una orquídea fácil de cultivar y que se reproduce rápidamente debido a su floración, la cual expone el labelo atrayendo a los polinizadores hacia ella (abejas, avispas, moscas). La característica principal de las orquídeas venezolanas son sus flores que destacan por un hermoso color púrpura, lila, rosado o blanco.
Its flowering usually occurs in early May or April in the spring. It is an easy to grow orchid that reproduces quickly due to its flowering, which exposes the lip, attracting pollinators to it (bees, wasps, flies). The main characteristic of Venezuelan orchids are their flowers that stand out for a beautiful purple, lilac, pink or white color.
Una de las características de su floración es que se abre completamente dejando al paso una variedad de semillas que contribuyen a su reproducción, las flores de las orquídeas de Venezuela son de unos 35 cm de largo y posee una hoja de color verdoso.
One of the characteristics of its flowering is that it opens completely leaving behind a variety of seeds that contribute to its reproduction, the flowers of the orchids of Venezuela are about 35 cm long and have a greenish leaf.
Las orquídeas venezolanas son plantas de reproducción hermafroditas, es decir, no necesitan de otra planta para su reproducción sino que utilizan sus órganos para lograr la fecundación. En la reproducción hermafrodita todos los insectos polinizadores juegan un papel importante, ya que estos logran multiplicar la especie.
Venezuelan orchids are hermaphroditic reproduction plants, that is, they do not need another plant for their reproduction but rather use their organs to achieve fertilization. In hermaphroditic reproduction, all pollinating insects play an important role, since they manage to multiply the species.
A mí bella abuela paterna le encantaban las orquídeas y entre la gran variedad de flores que tenía en su jardín por supuesto tenía las famosas orquídeas, las cuales al florecer adornaban el pateo de la casa con su hermoso color entre púrpura, lila, rosado, blanco con el centro amarillo. Por eso cada vez que era abril y mayo pasábamos ratos en el patio observando estas hermosas flores mientras hablábamos de como se cultivan y como llegaron hacer la flor nacional de nuestro país.
My beautiful paternal grandmother loved orchids and among the great variety of flowers that she had in her garden of course she had the famous orchids, which when blooming adorned the house with their beautiful color between purple, lilac, pink, white with a yellow center. That is why every time it was April and May we spent time in the patio observing these beautiful flowers while we talked about how they are grown and how they came to make the national flower of our country.
