Today`s first team post will be Brann football club. This club has a great history. It all started in 26 September 1908. Ski and football club Brann was the name of the new club. It is a short and powerful name, and the election must have been between Brann and Fart on September 1908. I had to be Brann and so it was.
Year 1909
The Ski- and Football Club Brann played their first match on New Year's Day 1909. Opponents were the already well-established Bergen`s Football Club, and the arena was Møhlenpris. The price for a ticket was 0,10$ to see Brann's first proper football match and the result was 1-1. The clubs first win was in 1910 and it was against another great Norwegian top division team, Viking from Stavanger.
Year 1914
In June, just before the outbreak of war, Brann played two games against the crew of the English cruiser "Cornwall" who was a year-old guest in the city. There were big losses in both matches. Then "Cornwall" went to the war.
Several of Brann's players were also called a neutrality guard, and some of the younger players in the club were allowed to try the A team. This year also reported Sigurd Wathne transition from Bergen football club.
In 1917, Brann came to the final in the Norwegian Championship. On the way Vidar, Ålesund, Stavanger IF and Lyn were beaten, but in the final Sarpsborg became too strong. 10,000 spectators saw the NM final played at Stavanger Stadium on October 4th.
Second World War 1940-1945
The football in Brann was largely down in the five war years. To the club's fiftieth anniversary in 1958, journalist Odd Strand wrote a long article about Fire during the war, based, among other things, on a report by the then acting chairman, Joachim Wiesener, in the liberation of liberation.
Year 1964
Yes, that is true. Brann, which was considered a favorite for the series gold once more, moved straight down after two gold in a row. How was it possible? Well, maybe there are some explanations: The coach switch is one. Oddvar Hansen traveled to Austria to retrain himself as coach. Brann got a new coach Austrian Pepi Stroh, who did not have a lucky hand with the player material.
Damage to key players was also a reason. Kniksen was much injured, and the same were more of the regular first-time players. In the 18 series, Stroh spent 23 players, which was very unusual at the time. In addition, both Bjørn Oddmar Andersen and Jollen finished in the middle of the season, Andersen eventually ended military service and Jollen to settle abroad.
Year 1989
Yes, it would be Euro Cup in the fall, but it was as usual the series that was most important.
It started disastrously badly - again. 2-4 for Viking away in first match, and saw 0-3 for Tromsø at stadium with only 6954 spectators ringside. Brann climbed slowly but surely to safe space, and when it was over, Brann was in 7th place (still out of twelve) with 30 points. Lillestrøm won the series supreme with 52 points, eight more than Rosenborg on others. The cup was a solid downturn after the two finals in a row. Brann performed to loose in the cup to Fana. The neighbors won 3-1, and Brann was already out of the cup already in the 2nd round.
But you had the cupwinner`s cup to look forward to. As a losing finalist for the team who won The Double, Brann was ready for the second best European Cup, and the joy was great when the Italian team Sampdoria came out of the hat. It meant a meeting with the world's most expensive player, Gianluca Vialli, at the Stadium, and nearly 17,000 were pushed in to attend the settlement.
Sampdoria won 2-0 in Bergen without overtaking any problems. There was a difference in class on the teams, even though Brann did a little better in the away game. In Sampdoria's hometown of Genoa, it became 1-0 to the Italians, and the adventure was out for Brann. However, most people agreed that the meetings with Sampdoria had been a nice and educational experience.
Year 2007
Finally! After 44 years of waiting, the gold was finally back in Bergen again. For an achievement it was, and for a good fortune it was for Bergen and Brann`s many supporters! It was a great season. From Erik Huseklepp's magnificent passion to a leading Thorstein Helstad in the huge backroom at Nadderud Stadium in the opening battle of Helstad's four goals against Viking at the gold festival at Stadium.
The whole spring season was Brann on Silver or Gold place, and from the 14th round, the team was at the top.
It was a season full of proud moments, but also a season of ugly bakers. 0-3 for Rosenborg at Lerkendal in April was bad, and 0-6 for Lyn at Ullevaal in June was cruel, but with Thorstein Helstad in amazing shape from start to finish and newcomer Jan Gunnar Solli in a class, he had not shown for a long time. With Martin Andresen as a whip and ballist, with Eirik Bakke, Azar Karadas and Hassan El Fakiri in red suit and with solid coverage in all places, Brann stormed against the gold.
The stadium has a capacity of 17686 people.
I have been to Bergen and Brann, and their supporters are great. If you ever visit Bergen, don`t hesitate to go to the football stadium to see Brann play.

There are many popular clubs in Norway, but the club that has done best in europa cups in later years is Rosenborg Ballklubb. I can post them tomorrow if you want to read about it :) They play today against Celtic in champions league qualifier.
I remember in the second half of the nineties until 2005 they always participate in Champions League. For away teams it was difficult to play in Trondheim especially in late autumn :)
You are right about that. Every team that played Rosenborg away in autumn had problems. They have beaten loads of strong team home, and actually AC Milan away hehe :)
