Fire Swamps

It was still very early, Gemina could tell as she opened her eyes. She was on the softest of beds and felt a warm body cuddled close to her. Kolt, she realized quickly. A tent was around them, though she didn’t understand where that had come from.
Ignoring her confusion in preference to the man beside her, she gave him little kisses on his cheek.
“If I get to wake up to those every morning for the rest of my life, I will be a very lucky man for sure!” Kolt murmured, meeting her lips with his own.
A moment later, he was on her, his crushing weight welcome as she parted her thighs for him. “Kolt! My Kolt,” she whispered urgently as he met the desire that had welled within her.
“I am yours,” he agreed, pounding into her body desperately. “Always, I am yours!”
Gemina met his thrusts just as eagerly until at last they were both satisfied and lay together in an afterglow of warmth and love. “Was I imagining things last night or did they tell us that we’re having twins?”
“No imagination,” Kolt replied, caressing her stomach. “Your beautiful body is already carrying our children. Hard to believe.”
“We will be able to overtake my brother and Rachel then!” Gemina said with a grin.
“I approve of this challenge!” he growled lustfully. “I love you so much, my princess!”
“My Naked Prince!” Gemina returned.
He kissed her, possessing her lips and her mouth. Then he pulled away slightly. “We are being called,” he said reluctantly.
“We can ignore them, can’t we?”
“It depends on how friendly we want to be. The tent is going to disappear in a few minutes, followed by the bed shortly thereafter!”
“I guess that’s what we get for messing with goddesses!” Gemina retorted.
“You may be right. But unless you are taking after me, you might want to get a dress on.”
“You tempt me! But my brother would scream if he saw me like this. My cousins too – and that’s not even half of what my mother, aunt and uncle would say!”
“But I will be what I am.”
“Yes – from the outset. They would assume I’d gone mad if I suddenly went full naturist!”
“I suppose so,” he said, looking disappointed. “But when we are alone together, I ask you to refrain from clothing – for me.”
“That, I will do.”
He kissed her again. “Our tent is about to disappear.”
Gemina got up and put on the one clean dress she had.
“You’re beautiful!” Kolt said, watching her. “Even with clothes.”
That’s when the tent disappeared. Kolt stood a moment before the bed also disappeared.
“So, the question we desperately longed to ask last night,” Stella said as the women gawked at Kolt’s handsome naked body. “How on Terrenden did you come to be without clothing so far from civilization?”
“I don’t often wear clothing. I hope I don’t offend you,” he apologized.
“No. If you don’t mind a bunch of old women staring at you, then you’re fine by us!”
Gemina giggled and put her arm possessively around Kolt’s waist.
“Your mother is going to be in for a bit of a surprise,” Stella said with a grin.
“You are right, Stella. But I’ve accepted Kolt the way he is and I expect nothing less of my family. My uncle may not be quite so happy though.”
“I think you’re right that the King will be… difficult. But he will agree because he loves his family,” Stella agreed. “Now, let’s get you two some breakfast, then you need to fly back to Erion. Your brother will be heading back later.”

Aurelia felt a hand stroking her hair, pulling her out of slumber. She opened her eyes, ashamed that she had fallen asleep in the bed of the patient who was now looking into her eyes and stroking her.
She was lost for words that she could use in apology as she looked into Garrick’s green eyes. All she could do was smile stupidly. How could she explain that she slept more soundly next to him than she could have on the makeshift bed a few feet away.
“I must have died,” he finally said. “Only in heaven can there be such angels.” He cupped her cheek and touched her lip.
“I assure you I am no angel,” she replied. “Ask my brother, if you must ask anyone. He will tell you the truth.”
“I look forward to asking your brother,” he replied. “As soon as I know where my brother is.”
“He is well, but he’s not in camp right now. I don’t believe he’s expected back for a few days.” She got off the bed and sat on the stool where she had spent most of the past several days.
He nodded. “I am happy enough to know he is well. I am Garrick. You are?”
“Aurelia.”
“An angelic name, even!” he exclaimed.
“Ask any sailor that I’ve beaten at Wolff!” she added.
“You’re on! Bring me a deck and I’ll beat you right here, right now!”
“Ha!” Aurelia cried. “We’ll see. Sister! Sister Naemi!”
The Sister of Vasana hurried in. “What’s the matter, Your Highness?” she asked.
“Your Highness?!” Garrick replied with a laugh. “Is that how you win at Wolff?”
Aurelia felt her cheeks heating with equal amounts of embarrassment and rage. How dare this sailor suggest such a thing! “Sister, a Wolff deck, please!”
The woman chuckled and left.
“I swear, if you go easy on me…,” Aurelia threatened.
Garrick laughed back. “I have a reputation to maintain. I play to win – but we have to have a betting match, I don’t play for free.”
“Your possessions went with your ship, I fear,” Aurelia replied. “I’m not sure how this can be fair.”
“If I win, you have to kiss me,” Garrick suggested.
“I was thinking more along the lines of servitude. If I win, you are my slave for a day.”
“That’s not the equivalent of a kiss!” Garrick replied. “That would be more the equivalent of you stripping in front of me.”
Aurelia’s blush deepened. “You are speaking to the princess! Daughter of the King! How dare you suggest such immodesty of me!”
“There you go, using your position against me. If you were just a serving wench, I would be asking for more than just you stripping!”
“You are a scoundrel!” Aurelia declared, standing.
“But deep down, you like it!” Garrick said, grabbing her hand. “Admit it! Who else has had the nerve to say something so provocative to you?!”
“No one – and there’s a reason for that!”
“Because you’re too grand for everyone? Or because you’re afraid to let someone have any sway over you?”
“I don’t have to listen to you!” she said, jerking her hand away.
Sister Naemi returned with the deck of cards. She handed them to Aurelia.
“I need a witness,” Aurelia said, looking at the Sister.
“I can’t. I have to check on all our other patients. They seem to all be better this morning. Doc doesn’t understand why!”
Aurelia felt a slight panic within her as the Sister left. “A kiss,” she conceded. “Against an hour of servitude.”
“Still hardly fair, but I accept,” Garrick said.
