Any face used for an overlay in this perspective would create similar results. Do a reverse image search on google and use any of the pictures found... If you replace the eyes with a kind of "light", you will produce even more hits.
I have spent years training my eye. I can judge a fraction of a millimeter and and a few percent in hue and/or saturation. This face is one of many, and there is as much or as little similarity as you would get from taking a photo of a crowd of a thousand people and overlaying the ones looking in the same direction.
I really would like to carry on this discussion with the mentioned curators. Not to argue with them, just out of curiosity of their own artistic potential and the accuracy of their eye.
I had thought, the discussion the other day had come to a reasonable conclusion. Most people around here would agree with you, that your mission per se is important, but it also seems a bit out of proportion. Taking it to such extremes could be just as bad for the platform as letting the real culprits getting away with what they are doing.
Btw... what is wrong with coloring a sketch or creating something based on a previous version of ones own artwork? Artists of all times have done it and you will find many examples in the top museums in the world.
I will be at Art en Capital in Paris next week. One of the most prestigious art shows in the world. I would be surprised, if I find even one hint of any source used on any of the works. In fact, it will most likely be the same at the Louvre, which I intend to visit again as I have, many times before.
So again, yes, by all means, fight abuse! But please, lets not be more papist than the pope.
We concur with you that google reverse search is a mediocre tool, not to say shitty, but you must be aware that we use way more sophisticated tools, you can easily ascertain this by noticing that most of our finds, dont even come up in google reverse search. Just in case your next question is which tools are those, we are not gonna tell you which tools we use, for obvious reasons, just know that they are state-of-the-art (pun intended) tools with the latest technology.

In no place of the posts there is the most minimum clue about this being the coloring and finishing of a previous "work of art". The reason is simple, the user is trying to make the minimum effort possible, and at the same time present the work -by intentionally omitting the fact that its a modified old sketch- as a new piece.
Your comments about all the prestigious art shows and most of your arguments, when boiled down seem to come down to the fact that a common attitude in the art world would seem to be: "Lie to me, I like it." or to go a bit further: "I love sausage, but please dont show me how its made because I wont be able to eat it again", or to go Matrix style: "Ignorance is bliss".

It is very unfortunate, that I don't seem to be able to make you understand, that I agree with you on the basic issue.
The only thing, where I think we have a different opinion is the "principle of proportionality" and that is why I mention prestigious art events and such. Not to justify things. Only to put them in a different context and proportion. In fact, I despise the way the art market is today. There are literally billions of dollars moved around for stuff that is done with little or no effort. Again, I am the last one who would say it is right and totally agree with your last paragraph.
The (high end) art world today is in a sad state. And it is exactly that, why I wonder, why we have to make such a big ado about a person making a handful dollars with something she likes, and which might actually be an important part of her resources.
In my humble opinion, she didn't do anything wrong, as I don't believe she was deliberately deceiving anyone. If done well, oloring a drawing is a much bigger effort than a lot of things I see on steemit... even on trending for the art tag.

I think we are beginning to come to an initial understanding of what is the position of the other, which is reasonable since the native language of neither of us is English, you are from Germany if Im correct and Im from Venezuela. What at first appeared to be a situation of extremely opposed views is starting to look more and more as a difference of nuances.
That being said, I believe that, -coming back to you for your inappropiate nazis comment earlier in our conversation- the serpents egg needs to addressed early on. In other words, its a matter of principles and those that deceive/cheat/lie/etc to get 5 dollars now, if allowed, encouraged and condoned, will be the same ones that will use the same means to get 1 million.
In short, what might appear as a cute little defenseless serpent early on, will later become a real problem.
Furthermore, and going on a tangent now, I value the character of real artists as yourself,
a real artist would never in my opinion tell us about her sick puppy and how sad she is, as a presentation of a mediocre deceitful drawing of a slutty sorceress, NO, a real artist would harness that sadness and situation, not to manipulate their audience and play the victim, but to manifest it through her art, for example making a drawing of the puppy or even better an selfportrait that conveys how she feels.
I hope you give that last concept some deep reflection.

Glad to see, that we both want to be reasonable and have an interest in understanding each other. Yes, I am from Germany. And as a German you have a certain history and with that you feel a certain responsibility.
My first comment may seem inappropriate, but if you really look at it, I never actually called anyone a nazi. You would have to be really stupid to be one today and I don't get that impression from you. I described an association and feeling I had, when first confronted with the situation. I had no intention to insult anyone.
So, you are right, to a degree, language can be an issue. People have different ways of communicating. Its particularly difficult, when its all in writing, as you miss all that we normally transport in tone, gesture and so on. You could read my text with many different voices in your head and it could even get a whole different meaning, depending what "attitude" you assign to it. A small miscommunication leads to a bigger one and before you know it, blood pressure is up and people start fighting.
I really would like to see all this deescalated. This is a social network after all, no courtroom, where every word and action can be turned against you.
Of course I see your point, when you say, "mind the beginnings" (not sure I translated it right). But you see, we also say, that the Germans missed exactly that in the 1930s and the question remains, what is the serpents egg? Again, please, by all means, I'm not accusing anyone and I don't want you to take this personally. Its just that history has taught us over here, to keep an eye on both, the prosecutor and the prosecuted. Either side has the potential to get out of control.
I can accept, that we disagree in this particular case here. I just don't see any malicious behavior or intention on Carmen's side. And when people become afraid to post here, because they might be confronted with all kinds of trouble, because they forgot something or violated a rule without malicious intent, it will surely be the end of steem. We can accuse almost anyone of acting with evil intent if we want to see it this way, just like we can choose to see it the other way round.
Again, please let me appeal to your humanity and compassion. Give the benefit of the doubt and get a second opinion from an independent party on what looks like evidence. Give the accused the opportunity to explain their view with the honest intention to consider it as true.

I thank you for your kind words about me and although I try to act according to certain standards, I certainly am not without fault.
I have given your concept a lot of thought, as I try to see things from different angles and understand different views. Again, I understand your point quite well and if it was about a professional artist from say western Europe, I would measure them by these standards too. But here I try to understand a different mentality and a different way to do things.
