The topic of the effect of phytoestrogens is complicated. There is a massive multi-billion dollar industry behind all the research done on the topic, which makes it exceedingly difficult to get to the truth on the matter. But it's a relatively minor issue. You're right, there are many other more important xenoestrogens.
The point of this article is less about the specifics. Entire books could be written simply cataloguing the various toxins, 'food contact materials,' etc. that we are subjected to on a daily basis. The point of this article is about the philosophy behind why such poisons are used. It's easy to get caught up in the question of if this or that is toxic, but I'm more concerned with the greater phenomenon of psychopaths putting poisons in our food, rather than the specific poisons they are using.
As for scientific research, we need to fix the problem of big money dictating who gets grants, and what gets published—which allows them to totally dictate the results. As anyone can see with the case of climate change research, the effect of big money can be devastating on the quality of the 'science.'
