Is Inspiration Perishable?

in #ocd2 years ago

Inspiration is a mysterious force it comes when you least expect it and when you need it the most you hardly find it. It's part of those things that are paradoxical in nature yet so awesome! If you create content here on Hive then you're a creator which is fundamentally not different from an artist because both of them use their creativity to give birth to something new, exciting and original.

The Experience

Seen from a wider perspective, we're all creators or you can say there is a creator in all of us. All of us have experience an unexpected brilliant idea pop into our head or a stream of ideas flowing into our head. The iconography of a light bulb portrays it quite well. During those moments we feel like we're on top of the world and we marvel at the brilliant splendid idea and where it came from revealing the genius inside. We feel euphoric of sorts, filled with inspiration.

Light Bulb
However, this moments are brief and do not last very long. If you're a painter, you'll be holding the paint brush giving life to an art piece and a singer/rapper will be dropping insane bars at the studio. A programmer/developer will be furiously writing code and an inventor will probably be structuring and redefining his/her invention putting the final pieces together. As you can see, you can't sit and be idle when it happens. You have to do something with it, capitalize on it.

Another paradoxical thing about inspiration is when you're looking back at the moment it happened. In retrospective, you seem like an outsider or a stranger looking at a godly figure. The painter might say; Wow! Did I really paint that?? How was I capable of painting such a masterpiece?? And the inventor might say; I can't believe I invented something that's now used by the whole world. Did I really did that? I must've being drunk that day. This is the reason why geniuses tend to have inflated egos hence looking god like.

The Answer

Inspiration is perishable but only when you do nothing with it. If you take action and create something from it then it's not perishable. An analogy would be a rainfall. When it rains, you can wash yourself with the rain water and give birth to something new or you can just sit there and get wet. The rain water didn't perish for the person who washed himself/herself with it but it did perish for the later because he/she just got wet.

You have to be ready if you want to take advantage of it otherwise it'll just wash by you.
