Making Ice with fire (Solar)… Testing the Jackery 240 with a 12 Volt DC Freezer/ Refrigerator

in #offgrid2 years ago

The little Wolfstorm 12 Volt DC Freezer / Refrigerator arrived today.

So I’m seeing how quickly I can freeze some water using Solar Power on a Cloudy day.

The Freezer draws about 30 watts of power and I’m getting about 50 watts from the Solar panel in overcast / cloudy conditions.

See photos below….

I’m hoping we can use this to make ice and save some food in the next Black-out.

I started around 84 F and it dropped 20 degrees to 64 F in the 1st 5 minutes …

It took about 10 minutes to reach 35 F… the recommended temperature of a Refrigerator.

What Temperature Should a Refrigerator Be?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that you keep your refrigerator temperature at or below 40°F and your freezer temperature at or below 0°F. However, the ideal refrigerator temperature is actually lower. Aim to stay between 35° and 38°F (or 1.7 to 3.3°C). This temperature range is as close as you can get to freezing without being so cold that your food will freeze. It's also as close as the refrigerator temperature should get to the 40°F threshold, at which point bacteria begin multiplying rapidly.

The freezer goes to -4 F… - 20 Celsius.

Wow it was awesome gadget :)

Yeah… I like it a lot. Learning what other 12 volt DC appliances I can run… fans, heater, etc etc

This would be real handy at the beach.

Or anywhere you need free electricity.
