ONO and a question

in #ono8 years ago

I have been seeing posts and tweets about ONO, a fair amount of which seem to be the "hype" variety. I have read into it some and it sounds like an interesting idea and that they want to take steps to keep bad actors from the system.

I will often try out news things/systems but first and foremost I am always a cynic. Now I dont even mean to knock what they have planned at all because I could see how for some it may be a great place. The thing that I ponder for myself is "Do I really want to give them my ID?"

I could be wrong but I think that ID is required and please correct me if I am. I know there are parts of the system that have not been finalized that makes me have questions.

Do I see myself giving my ID to a startup? I do not see how they will keep those secure and in this day and age I dont even know if its possible to. With just someones ID I can think of lots of scenarios for harm so it makes me question that aspect already.

Does anyone know the answer to the question if they require ID or have any other questions about their plans?

While I enjoy the world changing hype posts, I often find the devil is in the details.

Its a group of people from Steem who are really intense about hyping things, but thats what you would expect with a marketing team I guess. Kind of annoying but whatever.

Ono will be an imperfect system just like Steem. If its legit it will be good to have around. Being able to earn cryptocurrency income on a second network powered by a different token is a pure win. and if it sucks, its no loss from the current situation.

While I admit I haven’t dug in to all details, I am not entirely convinced about the noise I’ve read concerning their initial distribution mechanics.

They seem fairly arbitrary and also centralized to me. If they are going to focus on keeping bad operators out, that again while noble will also be arbitrary I fear.

Now, as for that ID thing. That’s a great and absolutely fair question. Especially because blockchain is transparent by nature, in ethos.

It is important that we do NOT forget one thing. Blockchain is not the Dark Web or Silk Road.

Bad commercial operators like the ilk of Nielsen, who sell data to everyone also FB, will soon come to love the most important blockchain ecosystems as they will be able to mine most of them for data. Combined with lots of traces most of us leave online already, blockchain ecosystems will become absolutely treasure troves to them and not even require the best to link many accounts, profiles together.

Before I give an ID, although Dan and also Ned seem ever keener on that too, I will need the highest degree of data security guarantee as well as commitment to privacy.

Within the concept of a DPOS system I don’t see how that is possible or how that could function. Function especially without there being one centralized entity hosting the data and being the only one having the keys to decrypt (which hopefully are physically kept keys and not stored on one server).

I may not be wise right now but so far I haven’t read anything about ONO which makes me think I should care about it. Until proven wrong I’m just going to skip that one more profile.

I share youre scepticism to a certain degree, and without a question the ONO guys top out most crypto for their community driven marketing strategy.
Still i find the concept also appealing, as regards ID the remain disappointingly vague, but i assume they won't request your passport copies, etc. you will need a telephone number for sure, but just trey to take register on Google or Facebook and you'll see they have mechanisms in place, that make setting up an additional account a real hassle. I'd assume, ONO is up for this path...

Yea none responded here or about it and I still havent seen anything on twitter etc.

I asked in the englisch telegram yesterday, there they said it would rather be handled by super moderators

Most of these ONO hype post do not contain enough information about it.
I have not idea if it requires I’d or not, but I could check though. I don’t fully get the concept yet

I have been checking around and havent seen anything on it yet myself.

Let’s hope we find. I’ll drop you any detail I find

Well we are in a world of cyber crimes and all such of things could happen to information not properly encrypted and thus means a lot of harms could arise. You see I’d suggest you use the tested and trusted technique, hold on a little longer for reviews and comments by already registered. Being cautious is better than finding a solution. There should be a selfie verification, video verification or some sort . I’m particularly cautious about giving my informations out. Unfortunately the link at which one chose for verification might be a phishing link. In my opinion I’d suggest you hold and see how it goes for a little longer. It’s called risk management
