Do you remember Neopets? Them cute little virtual companions that started to slowly make their way into our hearths back in 1999?
Ah the nostalgia hits hard with this one for quite a lot of us Millennials 🥰
Unfortunately the good old Neopets side has never been updated to fit a more modern audience. And although I recommend to check it out, if it's only to see what your old pals are up to, almost exactly ten years later a new game is here to supersede and boy we love it!
HyperDragons Go went live on the Ontology Network as their first game in December 2018. It was since described as "the ultimate Idle RPG" by Medium and declared as the new meaning of life by my boyfriend and our room mate.
And I'm not just saying that to sound dramatic! The entire household has at this point effectively molded sleeping schedules, work and activities around their respective dragon castles so they never miss a recovery time or the chance to receive an exploring party to see what resources they have brought home.
Now what is this new, mystical game that has pulled us in so firmly?
Well, to me it is mainly owning and caring for a flock of the cutest little Dragons!
You get to adopt those adorable designed critters from the Marketplace for prices that lower over time which means that with partitions and luck you can snatch the best partner for your Dragon before any other player can get their hands on them. The hunt here is real! Once you succeeded in the purchase of your perfect match you can breed to get an entirely new Dragon that shares features with Mom and Dad.
As a huge sucker for family and pets this is my jam 😏
It even came to me obsessing over our bloodlines enough to actually creating a family tree so we never forget were we came from.
Funny enough tho since I finished this tree several new additions to our Castles were made. They will be added soon.
So obviously I love my babies and the boys do, too. Their affection however runs much deeper then looks and shows in a more... competitive way.
They breath to train their Dragons!
Every generation has their pros and cons yet none of them are to mess with! They will venture out to hunt for food, use it to train their strength in combat, level up which brings Honor to the Castle and more power to them. Different sets of skills and personality triads as well as affiliated elements, genetic prerequisites and much more make every Dragon a special snowflake that kicks ass with no mercy!
This game is still very young. It has been less then three months since it launched and man, almost every week new features and little updates are added to the mix. We can not wait for the announced Arena and games to finally be completed. Battles, competitions and awards await us once we stand victorious! Awards tho is the perfect cue.
This is where HyperDragons Go takes a huge leap into the future and sets greatly apart from Neopets. Because Dragons do not play with Neopoints, Dragons mean businesses!
Yes, you guessed it: This is a Blockchain game running on ONG as in game currency so of cause you can make money back!
The so called "Leader Board" is based on Prestige which you obtain by having your Dragons venture out and bring back chests. Now the type of chest you will get depends on your party's collective power, as well as a bit of luck and the time they were out and about exploring their world. The type also determinants how much Prestige can be hold inside and which one of the chest guardians you'll have to fight to open it up. The player with the most Prestige under their belt will be ranked on top of the Leader Board and revise the biggest junk of the weekly price pool.
As you can see after a week of only sleeping when the Dragons would allow us to, training them every day and sweating over which chest they would bring back we made it to number four on the Board and earned 428.41 ONT as a price for our diligent Babies.
Of course this is not mandatory to enjoy the game and I personally am playing more to enjoy the fights and get exited over newborn Babies then money. Yet what more could you wish for then a fun game that also pays your bills?
