Decided to creat a section here for Overwatch players to discuss ideas, tips, tricks, and general commentary!
Feel free to post anything here you think might be constructive. I do not take credit for any tips I post, as a lot of them I've found through research online.
I'm a Mercy main mostly, but I also enjoy playing D.Va, Pharah, Reaper, Lucio, and Torbjorn.
Here's a few tips just to get started:
One of the biggest things I learned was the difference in Resource Bars (Health, Armor, and Shields):
Health is your general hit points, when you lose them all, you die. Pretty basic stuff. Displayed as white bars in the UI.
Armor is the one I learned about that made a difference in gameplay. Armor displays as yellow bars in the UI, and always decreases before your health does. Here's the cool part: Armor actually supplies you with damage reduction, the exact amount being 50% damage reduction per hit, up to 5 points of damage. This means heroes like Tracer and Reaper and D.Va with spread or pellet weapons will have a much harder time killing a D.Va or Reinhardt when just using their primary fire, because each hit is doing a smaller amount of damage. However, because of the 5 point damage reduction cap, heroes like Pharah and Mcree that hit really hard in one shot will have an easier time taking down Armored targets with their primary fire.
Shields are the final resource, displayed as blue on the UI. These are destroyed before Health AND Armor, but they also regenerate when out of combat at a rate of 25/second.
I'll post some more tips and play-styles if this catches on. :)
Overwatch Tips Continued #3:
Junkrat Tip: Junkrat's Rip-Tire Ultimate can scale medium-sized walls, so use that to your advantage to launch aerial assaults! Pharah would be proud!
Mercy Tip: Casting Mercy's Resurrections Ultimate immediately resets the cooldown of Guardian Angel so you can use it to escape after reviving your fallen teammates!
Overwatch Tips Continued #1:
Genji Tip: Genji can effectively jump three times if you double-jump to a wall, run up the wall a bit, and then try to jump again. It's great for getting to high places or avoiding enemy fire!
Mei Tip: Mei's Ice Wall ability can actually disable Torbjorn turrets if you summon the wall right on top of them!
Mercy Tip: Mercy is the only hero in Overwatch currently that has passive health regeneration outside of combat! So make sure to take cover if you're low or use Guardian Angel to fly to the safety of your teammates!
Overwatch Tips Continued #2:
Genji Tip: Genji's projectile deflection has to be aimed, meaning you need to aim your crosshairs at where you want to deflect to hit a target. If the projectiles being fired at you can headshot, you can actually headshot via deflection with careful aim!
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Thanks for posting this! Good to know. :)
