Painting/Drawing

in #painting6 years ago

Here is a painting/drawing I made a while back. I put painting/drawing because the lines between the definitions can get blurry. I would say this is a painting but others may call it a drawing. So, I put both. A painting is generally made using values instead of lines. I generally don't use lines in my process so I call them paintings.

My process involves defining general shapes first and slowly building up detail layer by layer. At first, it will look very blurry. As I add more detail I also add sharpness to the edges where I want the viewers eye to be drawn to. The rest of the edges should be left blurry.

"Work on a little bit of everything before all of one thing" is a general guideline I follow. This is what my art instructor used to tell us in class and it stuck with me. It's very useful when you want to create something that looks realistic. It helps to develop accurate proportions by building everything up gradually. Feel free to leave comments or ask questions.
