I supposed they don't have enough space for hundreds or thousands more tanks? they will reach full capacity by 2022, and have said that too many tanks will slow down the decommissioning work. TEPCO has also admitted that to try and get more land in the area it wouldbe very difficult because it would require contract renegotiations with both the government as well as local landowners.
other options for cleanup they are considering:
- Injecting into the ground, discharging as steam or hydrogen, or solidification followed by underground burial
