Since we launched PALnet I've been keeping an eye on the feedback people have been giving and while it's overwhelmingly positive I have read a few posts and heard a few people complaining in discord about the trending page.
We all know the trending page on steemit isn't really organic and the top posts tend to mostly be promoted by bidbots, at the moment there are no bidbots that upvote you with staked PAL so we have had a chance to see what humans will push to the top naturally. This has been an interesting experiment!
Current snapshot of trending on palnet as I write this:
Since this whole project is still relatively new I think it's natural that the current top posts are mostly announcements relating to nitrous and scot tokens, but as things settle I think that will normalize and hopefully include more varied topics. In fact we can already see a variety of posts from different genres if we scroll down a bit.
So what I want to ask our users is: What do YOU want to see on trending? If you had the stake to push things to the top what would they be? This is pretty subjective and it is obviously impossible to make everyone happy, we all have different tastes after all.
Historically I've used my stake to support art and music the most but since gaining a large amount of PAL stake I have felt a responsibility to spread it around to users outside those communities. As more PAL gets distributed and more people are voting I will probably move more weight back into those areas but I am always looking for great authors to curate!
If you know of any great authors using the PALnet tag feel free to drop a link to their profile and I will take a look and possibly give some upvotes if I agree with you!

I would like to see more quality travel posts - this is the best topic and the best way for us to get to know each other!
I would love to see posts about current events in trending and also posts that have a lot of votes (not bought votes)
DIEBITCH!!!!! Happy to see you around again :)
Overall, it is pretty good and you are right about it being PAL-centric at the start and probably for a while. But, who the hell is this @aggroed guy??
Hopefully later there will be some random good posts getting up there for interesting reads and a diverse set of content from all kinds of places. Perhaps what might be nice is to later split it more into filtered sections that allow for general topics to be discovered like tech, art, photography with a quick click. Or even better, some check boxes that will remember the settings so people can filter the trending feed based on some tags they enjoy.
Filtering is definitely a great idea, apparently on steempeak you can filter out tags that you don't like, though I haven't really tinkered with this much myself. Having a customized trending page would be pretty sweet!
What I like now is that there are growing use cases and little experiments going on all over the place. It all adds value to the experience :)
If I had the stake I would search for personal posts about life, health and creation in all forms (cooking, art, DIY) - posts that only that author could've written.
I believe most posts on trending currently could've been written by anyone as they don't have a (significant) personal touch. I believe life itself is precious - and although updates on apps, crypto or passionate posts about certain developments in 'blockchain' are valuable in a way, there's only one 'kind' of story you can tell, and that is your life's story.
I don't even mean big posts, just glimpses of life that have some thought and creativity put in it. Unique pieces that tell a story about a person - so that when they die they leave something unique behind that's theirs.
I'm very passionate about this and it would be a dream come true if I'd ever come across the means to empower content like that. The content of life <3
Agreed, this is always something we stressed in the PAL server when we muted people fr bed content :/ Post something that only you could post, something personal and that will add value.
To be honest, I never look at trending, so I don't have much of an opinion on what I'd want to see there.
I've pretty much ignored it on steemit forever but I have been keeping an eye on it on PALnet because I hope it won't be as boring as Steemits lol
Hi Julia - sorry to bother you and undoubtedly there is a better place to ask, but I'm hoping you could point me in the right direction.
I've just started using the palnet tag, and I'm on the spreadsheet for having some PAL to claim.
But I can't seem to get an icon to click on and claim my riches - even after logging in and out with both chrome and firefox. Any suggestions?
Did you try going into steem-engine.com and looking for the icon in the header?
Yeah I did, but no icon seems to be there:
PS - then I tried Opera - and things worked!
Whoot!
Just saw this now, glad you got it working!
PS - problem solved - I tried using Opera and it all worked, unlike Firefox and Chrome, so I'm sorted now!
MAGIC! I have always had an affinity for Opera browser :D
I think it would be cool to have some featured tags at the top. That someone browsing could easily click through to get a sample of the type of content here. I just picked a few at random, but I think some that play to the current demographic as well as a few generic ones might be good, like "Art" and "Music"
I’d like to see a good mixture of art, music, fiction lol basically if it seems like it took you more than 5 minutes to write and not bid bot up I’d be ok with it lol!
I’d say stick to the stuff you like, since as you say it’s subjective! Like I know zero about art so I don’t venture there but tech stuff I like to look at or sport so I’d Curate there! I’d just like to see the most engaging and enjoyable post of any category get the recognition it deserves!
All these trending posts are an advertisement for the community on what’s we enjoy and believe in

Trending is like the dark area in lion king... we just don't go there. That's where advertisements go, and noone wants to see advertising, but it makes the owners of the service feel good about themselves. in my humble opinion.
For sure, it normally is advertisement, hoping we can spice it up a bit though :)
Sorry I Digress, but How Many PAL Tokens Should 1 PALMM Mine Per Day? I've only gotten 0.6 Pal in like 3 days now...Doesn't seem like much of a deal @juliakponsford
I'll refer you to this, mining has a random element so the less shares you have the less likely you are to mine, if you aren't happy with the results I suggest selling it :)

Thank you , checking it out.
Whatever makes it there, makes it there. I'd prefer to see a variety, but it doesn't matter what I prefer, when the content is being pushed up organically.
This entire community is like a magazine or newspaper. When you look at some magazines, you'll see little snippets of what's inside on the cover. Headlines and little images. Not everyone will like the entire cover of the magazine, but something will catch the eye, and that's usually enough for the consumer to make a purchase. They bought the entire paper for one story.
So, a variety is good, and since so many are involved in pushing things to the top, a variety is what should be there, because of varying interests.
Steemit made the big mistake of placing the advertisements on the cover/trending page. "Promotion" "Bit bots" it's majority paid programming/advertisements. Those are supposed to go on the inside of the magazine, clearly marked as ads, so people can flip through and look for the real stuff.
I would love to see more cultural things hit trending. it seems every time i look (not often) its always something to do with crypto, dapps, witness news, pal news, or tribe/group accounts. would love to see something more personal or creative from the common folk who just write a good blog. the few examples i saw were amberyooper, serena, and yidneth, but it can be anyone writing about their own little niche.
People who really take they're content serious and put effort in to what they put on the blockchain. I would specifically like to see crypto weather on here some day, I think that's one of the most entertaining series in crypto and from what I can see the community as a whole enjoys it.
But yeah just people having fun, expressing themselves, and building amazing content.
Trending should be all sorts of things. Amazing pictures. Awesome drawings. Cool stories. Posts about random shit in the news. Posts about people's lives.
If I had the power to raise things to trending, I'd just upvote whatever posts I thought were amazing and deserving. The thing is that what those are isn't like one particular thing. Sometimes you read something, and it's just amazing, and when you don't have that upvote power, you gotta seek people out and talk to your friends, and figure out if you can find anyone to curate it up there, because it is amazing. So I do that when I find those posts.
I'd like to second @soyrosa's suggestion.... don't need to repeat it now.
Truly creative posts.... writers (as in authors), artists, photographers, musicians... but also thoughtful, reflective, personal blogs.
And hey, technical stuff can also be really cool too if you're that way inclined.
And announcements and updates.

Hi...I will like to see a variety of things actually, from life blogs to investment opportunities. I'd also like to see concrete news about developments in technology--I'm a huge fan of tech--concrete views and opinions. Then how-to's, things that guide people, inspire, inform, educate, entertain, not entirely all that serious, but verifiable, they could be in form of art, vlogs, poetry, sound recording, or articles.
I rarely go to anything trending. Just read the feed and upvote what I like..
Probably a bad habit from my days in livejournal when you tried to read everything !!
