Becoming An Effective Parent

in #parenting7 years ago

A parent with an unexamined past will be over-protective.

A parent with an experience of failing will be over bearing.

A parent who is yet to find him/herself will limit the child to his/her model of the world.

Virtually most things we complain about our children is just a bit and part of ourselves.

To parent effectively, we have to come to terms with our flaws and deal with them or else we will end up projecting our flaws on our children.

Our children are not the issue, they are just symbolic triggers to our flaws.

When next your child makes you angry, makes you feel like yelling or exhibit a lifestyle you are not cool with, ask yourself, "what is this child trying to communicate to me?"

The irony is, as a parent, you are competing with your child for the same thing... Attention, acceptance and affection.

The challenges in parenting is when we fail to deal with our 'flaws' as parents.
A strong-willed parent will always have issues with a strong willed child, because of struggle for attention.

A parent who experienced yelling as a child will to a large extend yell at their children.
