[Текст на српском] Leica company continues to abuse their insanely rich customers with a new ideas about “analogue soul” design. They did it again with M10-D body — and charged it measly $8K!
Basic idea is to offer “an analogue experience” without rear display. In their words:
The Leica M10-D brings a unique experience of analogue photography back into the digital world. While modern photography encounters an overwhelming number of features and functions, the M10-D is a bold statement of a conscious focus on the essentials of both the philosophy and function of photography. With no rear display, minimal effective controls, and an extremely quiet shutter, the Leica M10-D focuses on the desires of many photographers: to concentrate solely on creating meaningful photography. Aesthetics aside, the Leica M10-D isn't limited to analogue austerity. Its ability to pair with Leica FOTOS provides all the capabilities offered by a modern digital camera of superior quality and truly exceptional charm.
But they have incorporated WiFi — so you can be distracted by your smartphone! The idea is ridiculous, because “the distraction” is a matter of personal discipline of photographer, and cannot be a justification for the missing features. “Distracted” photographers can simply turn off their rear display on the M10 body and have their “Analogue experience” until they get bored. Leica also could make fully articulated rear display (like Olympus did with PEN F) and actually IMPROVE the M10 design. But no… the name of the game is “grab the money and run”.
Now, they did make an interesting addition: The fold-out thumb rest shaped like analogue film wind level. And that is useful and necessary addition, because M bodies really are not a role model for comfortable holding. But they didn’t remember to give that thumb rest on/off function, which existed on many cameras in analogue age. For example Nikon FE. Instead, they put on/off/WiFi ring to the back of the camera, making quick switching the camera most awkward of all their models!
