Disco Elysium - Game Review

in #partiko4 years ago (edited)

Disco Elysium is a mega ambitious RPG in which you can even become a communist

These are the first words you hear. In fact, they are wrapped in black - there is nothing but them, only letters. But the Ancient Lizard Brain that says it is wrong. In a moment you will have to do something. There will be a roar of the motor carriage approaching the cafeteria building and you will wake up - you will be brutally dragged out of the warm black. It is strange that it will happen so late - that before you did not let yourself out of sleep or the frosty air penetrating through the window, which someone (I wonder who?) Smashed with a thrown shoe, or swearing in the shoemaking of high-stoned kids in the yard, or even picket workers at the gates of the nearby shipyard.

Anyway, after a sudden wake up call, you won't remember anything - where are you, what are you doing here, what is your name. And above all - why do you get tired of this monstrous hangover. But do not worry. Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi who has just arrived - your new partner - will quickly clear up the situation. In the yard of the cafeteria, the dead has been dangling for a week, hanged on a tree growing by unknown perpetrators, and you, detective, have been appointed by a police station from district 41 to solve the case. Actually, you have been on the scene for the third day ... only that so far instead of collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses you have been busy resetting your memory by swiping and pulling what will happen. But the end of this good.

It's time to find a "defiled" shoe, tie your talking (sic!) Tie, and start looking for answers to certain questions. Who is to blame for the death of the dangling deceased? Where did you lose your police badge (and weapon, but keep quiet about that)? Why is almost everyone in this miserable district looking at you without a trace of respect? And why the hell did you bring yourself to this state ?!

PROS:

  • Outstandingly written texts both dialogues and descriptions;
  • A unique world in which many contemporary problems are reflected unobtrusively;
  • Sensational atmosphere;
  • Rich role-playing options, unprecedented protagonist archetypes;
  • Addictive, intelligent story with a thought-out, compact composition;
  • Expressive characters (both main and supporting) with whom it is very easy to associate;
  • Ingenious gameplay mechanics with a unique character development system;
  • Great visual setting with an artistic flair; rich soundtrack that perfectly builds the atmosphere;
  • Not badly sounded dialogues (though only partially).

MINUSES:

  • The story is linear, it lacks branches;
  • The hero's success is a little too strongly based on the roll of dice - the player rarely has a chance to prove himself.
