Greetings Steemians! This is the second in my series of interviews with developers using the Steem platform.
Read my first interview with @yabapmatt>>
I've noticed a few people commenting with a little note saying Posted using Partiko, so I decided to take a look at the app and try it out.
I love it!
Even more, I reached out to the developer to ask about the discord channel, and received a fairly timely response.
I figured this would be a good opportunity to get some information out there about Partiko and it's founder, and Sida generously accepted my invitation for an interview!
NB: I am writing this post in the Partiko app itself. The interview text was copy pasted from email.
Q. What brought you to Steem? What's your background?
A. I first saw Steem on coinmarketcap while I was looking for coins to invest in. Steem was probably the most interesting one I saw because it has something really tangible to it - a website that people were already using. At the time (late 2016) I didn't look further deeply into it because I remember seeing something about "100% inflation" and the notion of Steem and Steem power wasn't very easy to understand.
Over the course of 2017 I did more research into crypto and economics and wrote a crypto blog https://bit.study/. During my research I started to realize that a completely virtual currency might have the potential to create a completely new form of economy, and I've thinking about ways to make that happen. In January 2018, which is over a year later, I rediscovered Steem and realized that this is probably something that's really gonna work. I was pretty impressed by its ecosystem and all the money-oriented services people have been building on top of it. The "virtual economy" is starting to take shape, which is really exciting.
My background is software engineer, and i'm particularly interested in making user facing applications. In fact I've been making GUI applications for 12 years ever since middle school and I have 8 years of Android development experience.
Q. What made you decide to develop an app on Steem?
A. The fact that there isn't a mobile application that's fast and easy to use, and the fact that I love building mobile applications and am very good at it.
Q. What is your vision for Partiko?
A. Partiko positions itself to become the easiest platform for people to interact with crypto. The unique features that are available from Steem, including account system, fast and zero-fee transaction, reputation system and reward system allows us to build a working social app that allows users to engage with each in a whole new way. It's basically existing social app + crypto as the first class citizen. The key difference is that once you allow people to easily transfer values, not just information over the internet, it's going to completely change the human kind. So far there are a couple of solutions out there (a Bitcoin wallet, Ethereum dApp browser, etc.) but none of them shows the potential of being massively adopted.
Q. Partiko has a fun gamification feature that gives users points for activity. Will these points become SMTs?
A. We're pretty excited about SMT and we'll be closely watching its development. As soon as it becomes available we will be the first one to adopt.
Q. Partiko does not take a cut of users' posts. Can you share how it will be monetized?
A. Great question. One easy answer would be building premium services and charge fees on those. If you were able to hire someone to work for you on Partiko, we would charge you a percentage on your payment through Partiko.
Q.Thanks for your help in making this post, Sida! BTW, what is your Steem name?
A. @crypto.talk
If you like Partiko, you'll want to follow @crypto.talk and catch all the latest news on development.
And thank you everyone for all the shares and comments on my last post about Partiko. Keep the comments coming-Steem is getting better every day!

You were right. It is an interesting read. The guy seems to have a good background in app development and obviously has ambitious plans for the future in terms of market position and development.
We're pretty excited about SMT and we'll be closely watching its development. As soon as it becomes available we will be the first one to adopt.
He might have to get in line when they drop as i know a lot of other apps that are geared up to go as soon as they are live but i love the ambition.
I'm very interested in how he will monetize as at the moment there is a lack of external money coming onto the blockchain. I'm hoping that SMT's will help with this too as we need external investors and advertisers to commit money to keep it functional and to add value. It's going to be a fun year i think.
The apps are coming. There are a few new ones popping up every week. And with them tokens after the SMT launch. And that is with only 60k active accounts.
My worry is about getting people onto the blockchain. If they are not here then how can they push it's development. For me that starts with people wanting to commit money to the site. Unless they see it as a long term viable investment them why would people put in time and money to it's development.
i think that steem inc is making some steps in the right direction but we need a higher profile in the world. I'm hoping that after the hardfork there is a much larger push put on to increase our visability. At the moment we are pretty much invisable unless you are told person to person and even then with a two week wait to sign up most people lose interest before they begin.
Thats why any app like partiko is huge for us. Its so much simpler than the website which can be fairly intimidating for new users and less tech savvy people.
Like you i see the value of steem as huge in the long term not something to be too worried about for the moment. It's all about building a solid base for now and let people work from that.
I'm not worried about getting people in once HF 20 makes account creation much more decentralized. I don't mind making accounts for people I know, but it does tie up 14 SP.
dApps will have an incentive to make solid on boarding systems and Steem should blow up at that point. I'm not worrying about Steem being $10, I want Steem to have 1 million daily users.
I think we'll be there in five years.
It's definitely going to be a fun year.
I worry less about external money to raise the value of Steem as I do more app development.
The Apple store sold $38 billion in apps last year.
Apps are a huge market; with just one use of Steem being as an app platform, the money and interest will follow.
So @crypto.talk your here to solve the mobile situation and your solution was @Partiko... so you have achieved that goal which is ever evolving... great job but will you set the bar higher?
I know BlockTrades could use a good competitor 😉
What about porting to a PC & Mac desktop application?
Exchanges for STEEM are limited plus some users like myself encounter banking issues, Internal Virtual STEEM crypto card?
All areas I figure could use a little more attention 👍

That's a lot for one developer to do!
That’s where the build out of a full company with departments starts to happen 💪

Thanks for posting this @protegeaa! I had not looked too far into the future of Partiko, but it seems bright.
I am hoping it can shine amongst the SMTs and spinoff platforms that will most likely pull attention away from steemit.com itself.

I hope so too! It was your responses that I originally saw it, so thank you!
I am glad they brought this sweet app to your attention!

Thanks! I am always happy to write about Steem apps!

Hum. I just realized I forgot to address the other possibility about open source integration with utopian. That would be pretty cool as well... So at the moment their only funding is announcement post votes and maybe support on the side?

Might be. Maybe we can give them some attention on r/steemit and help them get more followers/users.
you are right.
