Haloo steemians, its really been a while but am back now. Ghana celebrated its 61st anniversary on Tuesday 6th March, 2017. As a citizen who feels emotional whenever the national anthem is played, i spared some time on that very morning to watch the display by school children and the security forces. i must admit they are a delight to watch any day anytime. What however dominated in most speeches read by government appointees throughout the country was a Ghana beyond aid. The President of Ghana HE Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, has for sometime now echoed a Ghana beyond aid and for that matter an Africa beyond aid. This is a catchy phrase and all well meaning Ghanaians are buying into it. No one will oppose it anyway, but as to whether this mantra of 'Ghana Beyond Aid' is acceptable to all Ghanaians and would be taken to heart is where my worry is.
The little things we do as countrymen and women goes a long way to either confirm or deny this mantra. There is the need to for the President in my opinion, to try speaking to our hearts. Initiate programmes that would be aimed at changing the the attitudes of the citizenry. It is imperative to invest more in shaping the attitudes of the younger generation from the very formative years as the effects of such an investment will yield compound profits in the near future. Many of the problems that confront us as a people is very much attitudinal. The sanitation issues, corruption issues, education, health, environment, etc would be very much reduced if that sense of discipline and patriotism is part of the formal training of students.
I call on all steemians in Ghana to join hands so we promote discipline and patriotism from the basic level education to the tertiary level education and the whole Ghanaian society.
