This is my FIFTH entry in to the joint contest currently being run by @erikah and @photocircle. I hope to do all seven categories! Almost there!
I first came to Bangkok, Thailand in 2013. I did what any first timer does - hop in a tour bus and head for the Grand Palace. Starting in 1782, the Grand Palace was the King of Siam's residence. This place has no shortage of gold! The walls, pillars, and the Yaksa Tavarnbal (demon guardians) watching over the top of the stairs leading to Phra Mondop (a library build by King Rama I) were also made of gold. Despite being crowded and touristy, I still recommend the Grand Palace to our guests who visit us in Bangkok. The trick is to go before it gets too hot and crowded to really appreciate the architecturework - the entire comples is a work of art.
