Yesterday, I had similar problems with Steempeak, too. Could there be a DDOS war going on between the front ends or was that just a co-incidence?
I had peakd.com being very wonky from time to time in last couple of weeks. I think it could be that the api server is overloaded as atleast lack of api servers was discussed in the first Hive-dev meeting (check @howo or trending).

Yep! Even Steempeak and even Steemit have been acting up lately!
