I read, enjoyed and up voted this post when it came out. I've been thinking about getting into the PeerPlays crowdfund but haven't had time until today.
So I go to the crowdfund page at https://peerplays.com/crowdfund and they warn you to "make sure your Bitcoin wallet allows you to export your private keys" then at the bottom, they say "If you are unsure about whether your Bitcoin wallet supports the exportation of private keys, then please use one of the following recommended wallets:" and blockchain.info is the very first choice.
Well I had made a wallet there, so I go there and get a bitcoin address and send it some funds. THEN I go hunting for the part of the UI that will let me export the private key(s) and there is none!
So either I am blind or there IS no way to export the private keys. Checking with my friend Google shows a really nice UI procedure that let's you do it, but on an OLD version of blockchain.info.
Bottom line! I wish I had remembered this post! Now I will go the Electrum route and hope one can still export private keys on there. Thanks for this helpful article and hopefully someone else sees my comment before trying blockchain.info. Do what Ash recommends!!! :-)
EDIT: I just followed this guide and got into the PeerPlays crowdfund! Thanks Ash! :-)
yep... blockchain.info is a questionable recommendation for technical stuff like this in my opinion. there will be a tool I guess...
