What makes a great leader? Why does it seem like some people are natural leaders while others have to work for it?

I have always heard friends complain about their bosses. Maybe you have a couple of friends like this too. They get off work with a whole story of what their boss said to them this day. Maybe you are that friend.

What's the difference between a boss and a leader?

A leader is someone who is human and knows what its like to be human. A leader knows that to get the best work out of there employees they must treat them like humans. An employee is a direct reflection of his superior so in order to maximize the outputs of employees, a leader must know that their actions dictate how their employees will function.

So what is the best leadership quality?

The best leadership quality is someone who looks out for his employees like his or her own family. They know that humans make mistakes, family problems arise, kids can cause trouble, and some days you don't have the motivation to do anything. This where a leader changes everything and acts like a third parent you never had before. The best saying I've heard about a leader is, "Whoever is under a man's power is under his protection, too."

If you want to be a great leader know that everyone below you is your family and everybody above you are your parents. Treat your own family with care and protection and always listen to your parents, seek their advice, and most importantly show off your kids (employees). If one of your employees does something great make a note to tell a superior, give credit where its due, and congratulate the employee.

Take these qualities and put them to action and watch how people begin to listen to you and look up to you.
