This year is the 26th year of Weng Weng’s passing. Born as Ernesto de la Cruz in Baclaran, the City of Parañaque, Metro Manila, the 2 feet and 9 inch Filipino actor is listed by the Guiness Book of World Records as the shortest adult actor in a leading role. And apparently 2 decades after his death, Weng Weng has a cult following in many parts of the world, particularly in the United States. An Australian rap group The Chuds and John R of R Room even created a music video about him.
Australian Andrew Leavold, producer, owner and manager of Trash Video, the largest cult video rental store in Australia, is a big fan of Weng Weng. When he visited the Philippines, he gave a series of talks on Pinoy B films, a film genre that made Weng Weng a star of his generation.
Leavold writes that Weng Weng was born with a condition known as primordial dwarfism, causing him to be born, in the words of his brother Celing, “no bigger than a bottle of soda."
“He spent the first year of his life in an incubator. He wasn't expected to live. Naturally, it was declared a miracle when he did, and in a country that celebrates miraculous acts of faith, it is no surprise that Weng Weng was dressed as the Child Jesus at the head of Baclaran's yearly Santo Nino parade.”
Weng Weng was a co-star or appeared in 14 films. At the height of his fame during the early 1980s, Weng Weng was even brought to Malacañang Palace to meet then First Lady Imelda Marcos. When the movie offers stopped coming, Weng Weng simply fell back into obscurity. He was only 34 when he died in 1992 of alcoholism and depression following a series of strokes.

Ha ha I was a fan of Weng Weng when I was a kid and likes his movies as an agent double-O. Then I never did heard about him until you posted it but I knew then that he already died.

He was exploited by his talent manager and was underpaid. The late 1980s movie trends shifted and he suffered from neglect and being unemployed because of his size.

honestly i don't know about weng weng before but after reading your post i came to know about this great actor and he is looking so energetic in these video's, May the Almighty rest his soul in peace.
Wow. 34 years of existence, but he still made a remarkable mark in the sands of time.
Most times, one doesn't need to live a 100 years or more to make a mark. However long we live, we should try to always "live a life that would be remembered".

when I was 6 years old I remembee watching weng weng's movie but I can't recall the title. all knew is that on that movie he had a small motorbike and girls love him.
