Since today is Sunday, the Sabbath day for us Roman Catholics, @marysent and I went to Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral to attend a mass, and to praise and thank our God for all that He has done for us.
After receiving the blessings of God, I've decided that why not share with you all the beauty of my hometown, the city of Cebu.
Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral was one of the first churches in the Philippines. It was built in April 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, Fray Andrés de Urdaneta and Fray Diego de Herrer. Due to frequent interruptions, the construction of the cathedral took many years to finished. But during the World War II (1939-1945), it was destroyed by Allied bombings of the city. Only the belfry, the facáde and the walls remained. Later in 1950's, it was quickly rebuilt under the supervision of architect Jose Ma. Zaragosa.
Last April 28, 2009, the cathedral was renovated for the celebration of its 75th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Cebu. The new look of the cathedral makes you think that you are in some place outside the Philippines due to its elegant interior and ambiance.
