RE: Theory of Human Behavior Part 1

I agree, this: the part of my mind that can identify itself seems like a natural starting-point.

I am not sure how much I agree with Sigmund Freud's structural model of the psyche though.

I liked Thich Nhat Han's spin on Descartes' "I think therefore I am" which was: "I think, therefore, I am not here". For me, that led to some interesting thoughts about how we subvert or drown out our own experience with our (constant) thinking. Yet, how we require thinking to bring any meaning to our experiences.

On some level, it's important to increase our awareness of what we are thinking and what purpose that actually serves. Of course, we can only monitor conscious thought.

Meditation has really helped me to quiet the incessant mind chatter. And, I try to think about whether something serves me or harms me.

But, at times, it just ends up being a lot of thinking about thinking. :D

Have you found a "better" model to describe the basic fragmentation between the known mind and the unknown mind?

If you've found a viable alternative, I'd love to check it out.

"I think, therefore, I am not here"

I'd say maybe, "I doubt, therefore, I think, therefore, I am not just this body".

I like this description of meditation -

I don't really seem to get tired of thinking. I feel like every subject is one of those "what's wrong with this picture" games.

Logical coherence is my goal.

No, I outright reject his theory without having another one ready to take its place. I would imagine over time I will continue to develop my own.
Yeah, I love questioning everything. Figuring out for myself whatever seems to make sense (for the moment).
I really enjoyed the video. That was really great. Thanks for sharing that with me.
Yeah, I guess me too, thinking is fun. There are a lot of "what's wrong with this picture" games to play, that's for sure!

Hmm, is it coherence that I am seeking as well? I suppose it is..

I am enjoying the interesting conversation. Thank you.
