Zelenskyy is certainly a hero/legend now but 2,000 years is a long time. How many political or military figures from a couple of millennia ago are now even remembered, let alone still thought of as heroes? Pericles in Greece, perhaps Julius Caesar (maybe as a flawed hero), Genghis Khan (another question mark). A few religious figures (but mostly only among the faithful).

I think the fame/infamy that lasts thousands of years may have more to do with impact on the world rather than heroics.... or whose stories were told at times where access to written stories were limited. It may genuinely not be possible for anyone nowadays, despite being truly heroic, to be remembered for such a long time because it might not be possible to have such a huge impact on such a large percentage of the population.

I'm not even sure if we need legends now, thousands or millions of small acts of kindness within local communities is probably more important.

I don't know... it's definitely an interesting thought exercise.

limited story telling (in writing at least) is a big part of it. There were many stories never recorded.

I think the same. Weirdly, the most enduring is what people have said, not what they have done. Though, perhaps back in time, it was their doing that made their saying memorable.

Bold of you to think there will be people 1000 years from now. I'm not confident we'll still be around in 30.

Neither am I. But, perhaps someone will do something memorable enough to get the species through. I am pessimistic.

I truly hope Volodymyr Zelenskyy is remembered for being a hero and deadset legend.

For some time, but not in a thousand years.
