could the objective part of beauty not sit in our DNA. A week ago on a youtube documentary I saw this old yoga-teacher asking a physicist:"What part of your body has the best memory", to which the physicist answered:"the brain?" Yoga-master then mentioned the body itself has most memory, as your nose still resembles that of your great great grand grandfather.
I think the same could be said about beauty, we have evolved to like certain things, also as you say we tend to like symmetry. Maybe we evolved to like symmetry or perhaps it is the fact that our body is one with the universe and understands that symmetry is a part of the laws of nature.
