in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Who was Benjamin Franklin??

Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706.
His father could only afford to make him go to school for 1 year. But, as young Benjamin loved to read he had him apprenticed to his brother who was a printer.
When Benjamin was 15 years old, his brother started writing his own newspaper, and Benjamin would have liked to also write for the newspaper but his brother won't let him, so he began writing letters at night and signing them with the name of a fictional widow.

In early America, people all had to have a place in society and runaways did not fit in anywhere. Regardless Ben took a boat to New York where he hoped to find work as a printer. He didn't, and walked across New Jersey, finally arriving in Philadelphia, where he would met his future wife Deborah Read.

In 1729, Franklin bought a newspaper, the Pennsylvania Gazette. His newspaper soon became the most successful in the colonies.

During the 1720s and 1730s, the side of Franklin devoted to public good started to show itself. He joined the Masons.

In 1743, he helped to launch the American Philosophical Society, the first learned society in America.

Recognizing that the city needed better help in treating the sick, Franklin brought together a group who formed the Pennsylvania Hospital in 1751.

In 1752, Franklin helped to found the Philadelphia Contribution for Insurance Against Loss by Fire.

In 1776 Franklin signed the Declaration of independence, and afterward sailed to France as an ambassador to the Court of Louis XVI.

He was also a scientist and In 1743, he had invented a heat-efficient stove — called the Franklin stove — to help warm houses
efficiently, and others invention like the bifocal lens, the odometer.

He died in Philadelphia, on April 17 1790.

  • Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

To get involved is the most important thing in order to learn everything.
When you are trying to teach something to somebody, involve them instead, make some good examples, take a trip to a place where you can show them what you are talking about. Make some experiments and practical things, get them involved into what you are talking about.
This method should also be used in schools, if the professor would make more things whitch would involve the students, it would be a lot easier to learn and the student would start to like the argument, instead of just studying it because he had to.

  • Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

This should be our goal in life.
If you are not a writer, than do something that would be worth writing about.
Most importantly , do what makes you happy, because only when you are doing what makes you happy , you will apply fully and get great results.

  • Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom - and no such thing as public liberty without freedom of speech.

The freedom of thought and of speech are something really important. In our day we mainly talk and express out thoughts on the internet, and we may think that we are free to say whatever we want to, yet many times what we say is censored, or even deleted. So there is no freedom of speech at all.
Many people are forced to write as anonims, especially when their thoughts are against the government or some big corporations, because they are afraid of being , censored, persecuted, arrested or even killed, especially in some countries like China, North Korea, etc.
So even if we may think that we have the freedom of thought and speech, we should understand that this is what we like to think, is not the truth. In reality we are still far away from that freedom.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by Silviu93 from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews/crimsonclad, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

@minnowsupport Too bad this is straight copy-paste from here: http://www.ushistory.org/franklin/info/

Hardly matches with the "original" profile cover. And this is not the only time this has happened. Check out some of the older posts of @silviu93 to see that he does this often.

@acidyo ... @creutzy at your service haha ;)

It's pitiful to see someone else be proud of themselves as they "throw dirt" on another brother from this Steemit Community.
You're attitude shows a lot about who you are. I should be thanking you for showing me to stay away from self-righteous people such as yourself.
This message is not supposed to be offensive, but to invite you to find alternative ways of dealing with this kind of situations.
You resemble the kid who doesn't feel appreciated as much as his brothers so he goes to his parents to "throw dirt on them", so that he may get their appreciation again.

You are missing a loooot to this story, unfortunately, otherwise I am pretty sure your comment would be fairly different. Copy pasting is the worst dirt someone can throw on steemit. And thankfully, I never do that. But since I am part of 2 different teams here regarding spam and original content, I clearly wouldn't let this go - especially when I am one of the Steemians who are working SO hard to create their own ORIGINAL content and image. Thank you for your input though - I hope you are doing a great job and enjoying your time here on this plagiarism free (or trying to be) platform. Buna ziua Ciprian.

Plagiarism:

An act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author.

source

@Silviu93 never said that he's giving his own opinion regarding the Life of the author in question. That's not a matter of debate.
He has to copy that from some place else, as they're not living in the same era and are able to meet face to face to discuss their life and what not.

Instead he give a little background on the Life of the author, which he copies from some other source (which he should credit for, I'm not debating that) and put it in his post, not as original content, but the fact of the matter, which is not debatable.
So as long as he's not stealing the work of someone else and claiming to be his, he's not plagiarizing.

Plagiarism is stealing some one else's work that they did about a certain subject, and claiming to be your own.
Which he's not doing. He's only copying the Life the author lived, he's stating it, not as his own material, but as the facts of the matter.
I agree he should provide the source of where he gets his information, but that doesn't make it in itself plagiarizing.

I'm not trying to personally attack you @MeanMommy33, but I am attacking the attitude you have towards this situation.

And since you are part of those two different teams, maybe you should clear up what is and what is not plagiarizing.

Also, I personally like your for working so hard to create original content and all that good stuff, but your attitude here is not part of it, especially since you're wrong about the plagiarizing stuff.

Buona giornata anche a te, @MeanMommy33.

The post is about the life-changing quotes and my personal oppinion, their life i can't invent it so i search on the internet , is normal, sorry about that, and by the way i put sources after somebody else told me about this, didn't thought about it before

I believe that you are either unfamiliar with the definition of "plagiarism", or you are pretending to be. Either way, good that you plan on including the source information. Still doesn't make it "original" but it is a step up.

I see, what i'm trying to tell you is that the post is not about his life whitch i obviously can not invent, but about his quotes and my personal oppinion whitch i want to share.

*opinion -one p *cannot - one word *which -no t *also from the other day: speak not speack - that for the brutal murder of the English language. [how would you have written all this in English like that??!! I actually doubt your Italian translations as well, but that's another story...]

That's a 'nice' way to express your "free spirit" on this site, by pointing out the grammar errors of a three-language speaking young adult who's doing his best to promote the Steemit community and regularly engage and create content for it.
I hope you don't point out errors to your kids with the same attitude, it wouldn't be very helpful for them.

Well...this is tiring so I'll exit the conversation at this point. I doubt I can get you to truly understand what "wrongful appropriation" means. I'll just let the community decide.

I understand, no worries.

The thing is that you have nothing to prove, other than him copying the Life of the author from some other source. Is he supposed to go speak with the Author face to face? How else could he come across what he did in Life?
I agree he should of pointed it out, but your way of addressing the issue isn't that supportive.
If you have a point to make, take it to it's end, don't exit out of conversations whenever you feel like it. If you're trying to prove something that is.

Great enjoy a lot want to see more of this in future. @silviu93

I LOVE this guy. One thing about him that's not well-known, is he would attempt to copy the writing style of someone he admired, in the hope that something of the other person's brainpower would "rub off." Meaning, he would try to copy how the person crossed his t's, dotted his i's. formed his a's and c's. He was practicing a form of brain-training before anybody had a word for it.
