I think if you get enough people to believe in a savior, then they won't try and save themselves or each other. They'll just wait for their Messiah to turn up and do it. But, what if the Messiah isn't coming? How long before people decided to stop waiting?

Yes thats true..if only if people have faith like a mustard seed then they will see how our Savior works for us. In this world where greed take place, there is a lot of agony and the people will try to do everything to save what they have and what they want in order to live without sufferings. According to scriptures , Jesus said, "No one knows when i will come to my people, not even the son but only the FATHER"..so we must stand still until the day he will return and judge the living and the dead.
