Yesteryear's Pier

2017-07-04 Sunset Composite 2.jpg
Here's a photo I took last summer in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. I was intrigued by the lone tree, growing on the remains of an old abandoned pier. A long exposure gives the scene a peaceful and dreamy feel, as the sun slips behind l'Île aux Plaines.

I was able to produce a long exposure shot without ND filters by stacking multiple images. My Pentax KS2 allowed me to take about 100 exposures, and automatically merge them in-camera, resulting in a single raw file. I also took a single image when the sun was exactly where I wanted it, and composited in Photoshop to get the sun, tree, and clouds without motion blur.

Sort:

Nice, I actually think the concept of stacking them is the same as an HDR image. Here's the wiki for more of an explanation of high-dynamic-range images https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_imaging

very beautiful ... the effect is so dramatic. love it

LINDA FOTO, TENGO EN MI BLOG UNAS FOTOS DE MI ISLA VÉALA SI PUEDES

This is truly gorgeous – looks like a frozen lake in some magical place at the edge of the world. Cool technique for creating such an effect! Might have to try that someday...

Nice job - I like how you took the time to explain your process.

Thumbs up 👍from me. 😎

It s amazing the sunrise

Great job done.
It is evident that the soul is embedded in this frame.

What an amazing shot. Everything seems so quiet and serene – even the water and the sky look calm, peaceful, and "soft."

And you're right about the sun, being in the perfect position. Great work!

Beautiful and they look quiet alone.

there's a story behind this picture :)
great job @archbitsmith!

Very nice sunset and composition. i like the very light colors in this pictures they are not oversaturated and very pleasant to the eye.

This Stacking function of your Pentax seems really interresting do you know if other Cameras have simmilar possibility.

I have a Nikon D500 and a Nikon D5100 but i am not aware of this stackin feature. Do you know how to reproduce this on Photoshop with multiple exposures?

It's a super useful function, not available on all cameras. But the merging can be done in Photoshop if you take multiple images without moving the camera. See this tutorial I found on Youtube.

beautiful! great shot!
