Northern Lights dance above a glacial lagoon in southern Iceland, a popular location called Jökulsárlón, where icebergs calve off a glacier and mill around for a while before threading the needle and flowing through a channel and into the sea. The Aurora can be seen on many clear winter nights in Iceland, but this display was particularly good, and I was happy to . If you're wondering, I lit the ice with a flashlight.
For those interested in seeing and photographing the Northern Lights themselves, @chaseburnett wrote a wonderful guide last night.
Amazing photo :) I'am your fan.
Aw, thank you! :D

Stop it... Just... That's ridiculously cool! Best photo I've seen today!
Hehe! Awesome! :D
Holy Schnitzel!
Gesundheit!
Whoaaa ... What a shot! Of all Nature's gifts of splendor, my favorite is the aurora borealis! This is an exquisite capture! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting! I agree, it's one of the most unique things that nature has to offer. :)
Nice work. I always find it hard to get a composition at places like Jokulsarlon. It always seems so "messy" with all the icebergs everywhere.
Nice to see that you recommended @chaseburnett post from last night, i was lucky enough to find that post and get it submitted to curie :)
(I should have posted this as @markangeltrueman - wrong account!!)
Yeah, what he said...
;)
I agree, it's a difficult place for composition - you either have to get high or find some bergs (or smaller chunks like this) that are closer, but everything moves around constantly.
Thanks for stopping by, @markangeltrueman! :D
Wow! This is amazing! Wish I could've been there to see it :o
Northern Lights happen often enough, you can see this if you want to! :)
Wow!! Absolutely gorgeous! Must have been so neat for you to witness that in person. Lol, actually, Iceland fascinates me because Vikings discovered it!
Also though, I think it is definitely interesting and valuable to know you lit the ice with a flashlight. Because I am currently taking a Digital Photography course, and was just learning about light sources in night photography. So it's interesting to see how you applied that here. :)
It's always amazing to see the Northern Lights like that! :)
Yes, a flashlight is an invaluable tool for lighting at night - it's more versatile than a simple flash. It's good to have both a throwing (long beam) and a flooding (wide beam, doesn't shine so far) flashlight - between the two you can do a lot!
Wow this is stunning, I love how you lit up the ice!
Thank you! :D
Nice mate. The lights are always special to see.
Yes they are. Thanks! :)
Man, that additional lighting really made the picture and even with that lighting you can see the reflection in the water from the aurora! What a gorgeous shot
Thank you, @beyonder! :)
a beautiful and cool and very beautiful spectrum sparkling in the sky @derekkind
Thanks! :)
Wow, this shot is breathtaking! Maybe someday, I'll be also the lucky one to be the eye witness of Aurora Borealis ;)
I hope so! It's worth the effort. :)
