The Diva and the court's fool in the dungeon. Part II.
This Sunday afternoon turned into an incredibly fun night with Jane and her husband, Chriss, and Anna. Full of creative ideas and multidisciplinary input for the brain. But see for yourself.
Jane is a wonderful person and a great model from Berlin that has done some Light Painting and Urbex before. She contacted me when I posted about this underground tank, She said let's go and create together. Her Husband Alex was helping us with the logistics and sang a few notes in the tank to use the voluminous space for an audible pleasure along with the Lights. A friend of Jane made this red dress. The way the dress was made was perfect for what we had in mind. The idea we wanted to work on was a levitation image, with Jane hovering a meter off the ground.
Anna is also a super creative human (We worked on the wind tunnel Light Painting together) and she is always interested in new artsy projects. She brought her Didgeridoo and the guitar to create a soundscape with the Light Painting. The sound of the Didgeridoo in the tank was mindblowing.
Chriss is a creative Performer, a Dance teacher from Augsburg who also joined us out of curiosity. For this shot she becomes the court's fool sitting right next to the Diva
As I told you before the tank is located a bit south of Berlin, approximately 25min from where I live. This time I brought a Laser distometer with me and checked the size. It is about 12m high inside and 31meter in diameter. Just for your reference so you understand what are you looking at. For me, that was important to check if I need one rope or two.
For this blog post, I want to start sharing our main attempt at this Levitation Light Painting.
Step 1.
Hang Jane from the ceiling and see how much time and how much light I need to light her and the rest of the tank up. Light Jane and Chriss up with the scanner.
We ankered the rope close to the top of the ladder so we can make her swing from the ladder to the center of the tank about a meter off the ground.
Step 2:
Using the acrylic light blade with a Zick zack shape to create the winglike light shapes and structures.
Here is the initial test. How strong the flashlight shall be and what shapes are possible. A quick test run while all the others had a tea ;-)
This was also to explore the space that I will have to fill for the shot.
Step 3:
Light up the rest of the place. Done.
Actually not that complicated shot at all. Just for Jane hanging there for a long time was difficult. The harness would cut into the legs and reduce blood flow. So we could only do 3-4 shots before another break. Which was absolutely fine because the shots came flying at us. We have been super productive.
What were the settings for the main shot?

| The first shot is a 152 seconds single exposure with the camera set to ISO 400. In order to get the cool angle, I used the LAOWA 12mm Zero D F2.8 lens. Nice set and sweet find of a location, pretty crazy!! Can't believe you had to crawl through that creepy pipe to get in there though. The things people do for sweet art 😍 Be safe G. You can check on LightPaints Map who is light painting near you. Most Light Painters I know will be happy to share experience and knowledge. All that with sharing the fun. Pretty sure.

No one yet in a 1000km - I remember Dan one of the founders was in the same situation in Denver when he started - but now it's a huge group with their own regular events. It starts somewhere when it's right. You can always see if you are close to someone when you travel.
