Lightning isn't the easiest thing to photograph, you can't just wait until you see it then quickly press the shutter button. There are a couple of ways to do it.
- Buy a remote that detects the lightning then takes the photo
- Set your camera to continuously take photos (1sec or longer depending on light) and hope for the best. Which is what I did here.
This is one frame out of over 100. I captured lightning a few times but this was the best looking one in terms of brightness, shape and location.

This photography is difficult. Good job, broth. I wait for more about your photography job.
Thank you very much!
Incredible timing! Those clouds look so powerful. Resteemed!
It was a dark and stormy night...
Thanks for the resteem!
You know what I did once? I took a video of a storm while in BC.....and lightening struck Mt Garibaldi.....so I took a screen shot of the event from the video. Ya....wasn't the best but it sure was exciting!!!
Your photo is spectacular!
That is a third way to capture lightning I suppose :D
This photo is amazing! You clearly put a lot of effort into it; it's incredible.
The lightning did most of the work ;)
I have tried to capture lightning before but usually by the time I find somewhere dry to setup the storm passes. Stunning photo!
This storm was a chance occurrence. I was out shooting a sunset (which was a dud) but the storm was kind of cool
Cool shot. I like the orange-y glow.
The lightning was nice enough to light up the rain as well :)
It's been years since I shot lightning. I grew up in the Midwest where we had thunder storms on a consistent basis. Those storms are something I miss living in Idaho. I'll have to go back through my archives and find those photos. I've never shared them on the internet.
We don't get many decent electrical storms in Melbourne. They are usually in Summer only as well.
Dude! That is all kinds of end of days awesome. Wow
Luckily the world survived long enough for me to get this shot :)
Ha ha indeed
Man this is all shades of awesome. I can only imagine how long you waited to get this. I love it ☺
I think this was one of the earlier shots. The storm was moving away and the lightning became fainter.
Thanks!
Wow, that's awesome.. love the orange glow beneath those dark clouds
Thank you very much!
Love the tones in this Kieran!
Cheers, mate! It was a really dramatic sky
Definitely a cracking shot!
You never know when my puns can strike!
one word ;
"EXCEPTIONAL"
Two words;
"THANK YOU!"
:D
Nice. I do miss the storms; it used to be one of my favorite things to shoot in Australia. We don't get them up this far north.
I don't have the motivation to chase them, but I like when they stop by my way
Awesome and amazing, wow!
Thank you very much!
Nice. Can't even start to imagine how many shots you must have taken to get this winner!
About 100 :P
I like it so much I wish I have taken it. Followed.
