THE APLINE ACCENTOR
Scientific Name : Prunella Collaris
The Alpine Accentor (Prunella collaris) is a smallish passerine bird.
It is 15-17.5 cm in length.
It bears a streaked brown colored back, somewhat similar to a house sparrow, but adults possess a grey head and red-brown spotting on the underparts. It has an insectivore's fine sharp bill.
The male is contrasted in appearance. Younger birds possess browner heads as well as underparts.
It is found throughout the mountains of Southern Europe, Lebanon as well as parts of Asia at heights above 2000 m.
It is mostly dwelling more widely at lower latitudes, nonetheless some birds wander as rare vagrants as far as The United Kingdom.
It is a bird of plain mountain regions with lesser vegetation.
It feeds on insects, eggs, larvae and worms, snails. Rarely takes plant foods - seeds and berries.
It builds up a neat nest lower in a bush or rock crevice, laying 3-5 un-spotted sky-blue or gray-green eggs.
