Dobšinská Ice Cave – Dobšiná

The largest ice cave in Slovakia is the Dobšinská Ice Cave. It is one of the most famous ice caves in the whole world. The ice cave is also in the list of UNESCO World Heritage since 2000 which makes it one of the best tourist attractions in Slovakia. The cave was discovered in 1870 by an engineer named Eugen Ruffínyi.

Prince August von Sachsen Gotha visited the cave once. Ferdinand de Lesseps, the famous developer of Suez Canal, also saw the cave’s beauty. Prussian Prince Friedrich Karl and his wife found shelter in this cave when a storm hit them while on travel. Samuel Valko was also in the cave at that time and he helped the Royal couple which earned him a medal of Halušky.
