The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) of Lhokseumawe City together with students who are members of the City Executive - National Student League for Democracy (Ek-Lmnd) Aceh held a demonstration in front of the local Riyadah Park, Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The action, which took place at around 20.30 WIB, was accompanied by a number of song lyrics in the form of protests and theatrics.

The action was also escorted by the Lhokseumawe Police. The Action Coordinator, Agam Khalilullah said the action was carried out in solidarity with the violence that occurred against a number of journalists in Indonesia, especially in Aceh Province.

For example, the persecution experienced by the journalist Nurhadi has added to the list of cases of violence against press personnel in various regions in Indonesia with the perpetrators being police officers. AJI Indonesia noted that in 2020 there were at least 54 cases of violence against journalists with police officers as perpetrators.

“These violent incidents not only injure democracy, but also further shake the freedom of the press in the country," said Agam accompanied by the Chair of AJI Lhokseumawe, Irmansyah and the Secretary General, Jafaruddin.
