Greek carnival was cancelled / Griechischer Karneval abgesagt

& Patras doesn't care.	& Patras kümmert sich nicht drum.

Because of the Wuhan virus, Greece cancelled all carnival events. Don't know about other cities in Greece, but people here in Patras did not let the government spoil their fun.	Wegen des Wuhanvirus hatte Griechenland alle Karnevalsaktivitäten abgesagt. Weiß nicht, wie das in anderen griechischen Städten gehandhabt wurde, aber hier in Patras hat man sich nicht den Spaß verderben lassen.

The climax of the carnival in Patras are 2 street parades, the Saturday night parade & the Grand Parade on Sunday afternoon, at the weekend before Clean Monday. The Saturday night parade did not really take place this year, but a lot of people were in the inner city to celebrate, anyway.	Der Höhepunkt des Karnevals in Patras sind 2 Umzüge, der Samstagabendzug & die Grand Parade am Sonntagnachmittag vor dem Reinen Montag. Der Samstagabendzug fand dieses Jahr nicht wirklich statt, obwohl trotzdem viele Leute in der Innenstadt feierten.

The above was the only organised group I saw. Perhaps either I was too late or too early downtown. But for what I could see, people just celebrated without having a parade. The pedestrian zones were packed with revellers. & virtually nobody was wearing a face mask.	Oben sieht man die einzige organisierte Gruppe, die mir auffiel. Ich war vielleicht zu spät oder zu früh. Aber soweit ich das sehe feierten die Leute einfach ohne Umzug. Die Fußgängerzonen wimmelten von Feiernden. & niemand schien einen Mundschutz zu tragen.

Sunday afternoon I went downtown again, to see if anything would be going on. At first, it didn't seem so. There were a lot of people, but no parade. At the central square I locked my bike because I wanted to walk around a bit to take pictures.	Sonntagnachmittag fuhr ich wieder ins Zentrum, um zu sehen, ob irgendwas los war. Sah zunächst nicht danach aus. Waren viele Menschen unterwegs, aber kein Umzug. Am zentralen Platz schloß ich mein Rad ab, um ein bißchen durch die Gegend zu latschen & Bilder zu machen.

At the north end of the square, people were standing beside the street, as if waiting for a parade. So I went a bit further to check whether something was going on &, sure enough, a parade was coming. Hence I looked for a good spot to take some pictures.	Am Nordrand des Platzes standen viele an der Straße, als ob sie auf den Umzug warteten. Also ging ich ein Stück weiter, um nachzusehen, ob was kam, & tatsächlich, ein Umzug näherte sich. Daher sah ich mich nach einer guten Ecke um, wo ich fotografieren konnte.

Took me a bit to actually get to a place where the sun could reach the street. That's why some of the photos are a bit dark.	Dauerte etwas, bis ich einen Platz fand, wo die Straße im Sonnenlicht lag. Darum sind einige Bilder etwas dunkel geraten.

The parade was not officially sanctioned, but obviously the officials recognised that people wanted to celebrate, Wuhan virus or not. So, some police was around. The Red Cross also had a small presence, seemingly rather bored.	Der Umzug war wohl von der Stadt nicht genehmigt, aber offenbar hatte man eingesehen, daß die Menschen feiern wollten, egal ob Wuhanvirus oder nicht. Also sah man einiges an Polizei. Das Rote Kreuz war auch anwesend, wenn auch anscheinend gelangweilt.

The parade was smaller than usual, fewer spectators, fewer participants & no floats. But people had fun obviously. & even though it was still rather early in the afternoon, many flares were burned. Their smoke gave some nice background for the central square's fountain.	Der Zug war kleiner als normal, weniger Zuschauer, weniger Teilnehmer & keine Motivwagen. Aber man hatte offenbar Spaß. & auch wenn es noch recht früh am Nachmittag war, wurden doch so einige Bengalos gezündet. Deren Rauch formte einen netten Hintergrund für den dortigen Brunnen.

Just like on Saturday evening, virtually no one was wearing a face mask. Obviously Greece is not yet in panic mode.	Wie schon am Samstagabend trug so gut wie niemand einen Mundschutz. Griechenland ist ganz offenbar noch nicht im Panikmodus.

Well, OK, some people wore masks, but for some reason I doubt it was because of the Wuhan virus:	Nunja, manch einer trug eine Maske, aber aus irgendeinem Grunde bezweifle ich, daß das wegen des Wuhanvirus war:

Luckily, this guy is not recognisable. I guess, he really hurt the feelings of the "Chinese people" (ie. the CCP) with this one.	Zum Glück ist der Typ nicht erkennbar. Nehme an, daß er die Gefühle "aller Chinesen" (sprich: der KPCh) doch schwer verletzt hat.

That was it almost for the parade. It was a really short one. Took only 1 to 2 hours. Usually these parades stretch from noon to evening.	Das war es dann auch fast mit dem Umzug. War doch recht kurz. Dauerte nur 1-2 Stunden. Normalerweise dauert der vom Mittag bis zum Abend.

Last group of the parade was the band pictured above. So, the parade may have been smaller than usual, but it was held. I'm not generally a fan of carnival, but of resilience. & I'm happy to see that so many people were not afraid of that virus.	Die letzte Gruppe des Zuges war die oben gezeigte Band. Der Umzug war also kleiner als normal, aber immerhin fand er statt. Bin nicht wirklich ein Karnevalsfan, aber mir gefällt die gezeigte Einstellung gegenüber der Virusgefahr.
