| Another late afternoon in 2007, another shopping trip with enough time to wander around downtown a bit. This time I found the Moon Lake. | But before I got to the lake, I first had to walk a while from the bus stop. On the way I walked by the Tianfeng Tower again. Nearby, Ningbo was destroying one of the nicer parts of town. But in China old towns are only left standing when there is no money for a new development or when there is money to be made from tourism. Obviously, this quarter was not nice enough to attract tourists. | Bevor ich jedoch den See erreichte, mußte ich erst eine Weile latschen. Auf dem Weg kam ich wieder mal an der Tianfengpagode vorbei. In deren Nähe zerstörte Ningbo gerade einen seiner angenehmeren Stadtteile. In China werden Altstädte nur dann stehengelassen, wenn es kein Geld für Stadtentwicklung gibt oder wenn man damit Touristen anlocken kann. Offenbar war dieses Viertel nicht schön genug für Touristen. |

| There had been & still were small houses in the traditional style of the region. The pic above shows some interesting decoration of one of the more modern buildings to be torn down. | In China, rubble attracts rubbish. Well, actually people throw away their stuff anywhere, but every garbage heap is used to heap more garbage on it. | Part of the quarter was obviously considered historically valuable & was allowed to survive. At least if I interpret the plaque below correctly. Might have been a former temple that was to be spared. | Ein Teil des Viertels wurde anscheinend als historisch wertvoll genug erachtet, um stehenzubleiben. | While some people disposed of their garbage onto the rubble, others (or perhaps the very same people) were looking for useful stuff. | The above is the Ningbo Tea Culture Museum. It's more or less on an island in the lake. From what I could gather only something for people with a great interest in tea. Only shows a few exhibits from the area. I was more interested in some architectal features of the park's pavilions. | Oben sieht man das Teekulturmuseum Ningbos. Befindet sich auf einer Art Insel im See. Soweit ich das sehe, nur was für Leute mit großem Interesse an Tee. Zeigt nur einige Exponate aus der Region. Mich interessierten eher die architektonischen Feinheiten der Parkpavillons. |

| On one roof was some traditional painting. Probably not very old, but looks very much like the traditional paintings you might find in buildings from the Qing Dynasty. | Auf einem Dach gab es traditionelle Malerei. | The pavilion from the title pic is not quite as elaborately constructed as some others & without the nightlights is not too remarkable. (The spots are from dust inside the lens. | The next one is a portal of the Fojiao Jushilin (佛教居士林) complex which includes the Guandi Temple (关帝庙, which is the simplified version of the 3 characters you see written vertically). It's a Buddhist centre, (re-)built in 1996, which includes the temple, a library & a reading hall. | Das nächste Bild zeigt das Portal des Fojiao-Jushilin-Komplexes (佛教居士林), zu welchem der Guandi-Tempel (关帝庙, die vereinfachte Version der vertikal geschriebenen Zeichen) gehört. | Now I have an addendum to my last "Wanderings" in which I posted the below photo of a "pseudo pagoda". Researching for today's post, I came across some info about it. | Dann gibt es aber noch ein Addendum zum letzten Streifzug zum unten zu sehenden Bild einer "seltsamen Pagode". Bei der Recherche für den heutigen Beitrag fand ich doch noch einige Infos. |

| It's called the Xiantong or Turtle Tower & was the west tower of the Tianning Temple which was built at the site during Tang Dynasty. The temple was destroyed & rebuilt numerous times, until its final destruction in 1949 (guess, who did it). The west tower was repaired in 1995 & is all what remains of the temple. | Das Ding nennt sich Xiantong oder Schildkrötenturm & war der Westturm des Tianningtempels, der dort in der Tangdynastie errichtet worden war. Der Tempel wurde diverse Male zerstört & wiederaufgebaut, bis zur endgültigen Zerstörung im Jahr 1949 (Durch wen wohl?). Der Westturm wurde 1995 repariert & ist der letzte Rest des Tempels. |
