| The first interesting (well, for me) sight I came across was a leaking hydrant. Leaking water is very common in Patras, I suppose mainly because of the ailing infrastructure. Just a couple of days ago I found a major leak which had actually created a stream (but that is for another post). | Das erste Interessante (nunja, für mich), was mir begegnete, war ein leckender Hydrant. Wasserlecks sind ziemlich normal in Patras, vermutlich wegen der maroden Infrastruktur. Erst vor ein paar Tagen fand ich ein gigantisches Leck, das schon eine Art Bach geschaffen hatte (aber dazu mehr in einem anderen Beitrag). |

| It's really a shame, because the view from up there is really nice. There are lots of such wonderful sites with abandoned or unfinished houses in Patras. Don't really understand why so few foreigners buy property here. Houses are really cheap in Greece. (Not cheap enough for me, of course.) | Ist schon eine Schande, denn der Blick von da oben hat was. | Well, I went further uphill, until I came to a spot where the hillside beside the street was quite open with a lot of stones sticking out. | I suppose, it's some kind of jasper. Looks nice. Maybe if I would cut & polish these stones, I could make some money this way. But I'm much too laz... er ... intelligent for manual labour. | In the moss covering the hillside were growing some tiny mushrooms. Had to use the macro to actually photograph them. & below is another jasper, this time combining the meaty appearance with a green, jade-ish layer: | Im Moos, das dort wuchs, fanden sich einige winzige Pilze. | Since I had the macro adapter in place, I kept diving into the world of tiny. A caterpillar was dancing at a filament in front of the moss. Because it really kept moving, this is the only shot with it in proper focus. | Da ich den Zwischenring schonmal draufhatte, tauchte ich weiter in die Welt des Winzigen. Eine Raupe tanzte an einem Faden vor dem Moos. Weil sie aber ständig tanzte, ist dies das einzige Bild mit ihr im Fokus. |

| There was an ant nest under the moss. An animal much larger than the others caught my eye. It looked like an ant, but I don't think it was one. It tried to enter the nest, but was blocked at one entrance. Then it moved around, looking for another one. It pushed inside, although the hole was a bit small. It moved a bit too quickly for the camera to focus in macro mode, but I got this somewhat decent shot. Note the strange little mites riding on this animal. | Unter dem Moos war auch ein Ameisenbau. Ein Tier, das wesentlich größer als die anderen war, fiel mir auf. Sah aus wie eine Ameise, war aber wohl keine. Es versuchte, in den Bau zu kommen, wurde aber an einem Eingang geblockt. Dann lief es rum, nach einem weiteren Eingang suchend. Es fand einen, der eigentlich zu klein war, aber schob sich doch hinein. Bewegte sich leider etwas zu schnell, um auf Makroebene richtig scharfzustellen, aber habe immerhin dieses halbwegs ordentliche Bild. Man beachte die seltsamen Milben, die auf dem Tier reiten. |

| You can also see why winter in Patras is not the healthiest season. Again a lot of smoke in the air. But the view from up there is really something (& the air is better, too). | Man sieht auch, warum der Winter nicht die gesündeste Jahreszeit in Patras ist. Wieder sehr viel Rauch in der Luft. Der Ausblick von da oben ist aber doch nicht schlecht (& die Luft ist besser als unten). |

| Sometimes the scenery here reminds of some old spaghetti westerns. Maybe because they filmed them in the Mediterranean. The yucca in the background is not native, but the 2 aloe plants in front probably are. If they are aloe. I always confuse aloe with agave. I only know that the title pic shows agave because of the inflorescence. | Manchmal erinnert mich die Gegend hier an alte Spaghettiwestern. Vielleicht, weil sie am Mittelmeer gedreht wurden. Die Yucca im Hintergrund ist nicht einheimisch, aber wohl die beiden Aloepflanzen im Vordergrund. Falls es Aloe ist. Verwechsle ich immer mit Agaven. Weiß nur wegen des Blütenstandes, daß das Titelbild eine Agave zeigt. |

| By then it was obviously getting pretty dark. I just took some more photos of the city lights in the dusk. Don't really want to go downhill in the complete dark. Up there you often don't have any streetlights. | Man sieht, daß es da schon recht dunkel wurde. Machte nur noch ein paar Bilder von den Stadtlichtern in der Abenddämmerung. Will nicht unbedingt im Dunkeln bergab fahren. Da oben gibt es oft keine Straßenbeleuchtung. |

Oh wow what a gorgeous place and fantastic stones @bossel! :-)
They do look like jaspers and very beautiful ones! I would bet there
are rockhounds who would want those beauties! What are the
temperatures there in winter? Awesome posting so many wonderful
photographs! Any day is good for #bouldersunday tho the tag needs
to be within the first five tags and then I can find the post easier.
You even have cute mushrooms and small mosses, oh and bugs
too, funny the bugs getting bugged lol. There are some challenges
and contests for those subjects also!

Actually, I thought about polishing & selling some of the stones here. Particularly the meat (or bacon) stones could be sold to China, I think. But I'm too lazy & have no experience, anyway.
Winter is quite mild. Daytime rarely goes below 10°C.
