This is a continuation my photo essay of Grad Cherven, part of a recent series of interesting sights in and around Russe, Bulgaria -- the so-called Vienna of the Balkans.
Let's start with a few views of the surrounding area, shall we? ...
It seems pretty obvious to me that this river has been here for centuries, wearing away the rock and under soil (not to mention that the Danube could very easily have flowed through here in the past) ...
This is the nearby village of Cherven (where @katalinaooma used to spend her summers, as I understand), after which the ancient city is named:
I think it blends in quite well with the environment, don't you?
One medieval tower is left standing:
A dreamer among ruins ;)
A side-view of the tower:
A View to a Kill?
Question: How many feet have walked this path?
Answer: A heck of a lot!
A fairly modern bridge, leading to a nice meadow ...
Another view of the tower:
A shot of another church wall located further down ...
I call this one "Moss and Ferns in an Old Well" :P
A detail of the cliffs surrounding the village ...
And another of the village. Do you find it as beautiful as I do?
Well, this ends our second steemit jaunt around the Medieval City of Cherven (and a bit of its namesake). Stay tuned for the next in the series, which will be mostly pictures of the nature in the area ...
