Memories in a tiny sized bottle

I have this little miniature boat inside a bottle from long time ago when I was a small kid. Like the tag suggests, it was a trip to Åland in Finland archipelago. It wasn't with my parents, but with the crew of a children's home I was in during the time when life was unstable during my parent's divorce. It was actually a pretty good place even though some other kids there were slightly troubled, but the staff there were really good and professional.

I remember we were lodging at some place near a coast on some cabins. We did some painting on small hand-sized rocks. I remember I painted an oyster, but I forgot to take it with me; it was left behind at the terrace of the cabin, I assume. It was a bummer when I realized this back at the home.

Most of the memories from the trip have faded away, but for some reason I remember a dad of one of the kids who was along the trip and borrowed my Donald Duck comics I had with me. We also visited a glassblower in Mariehamn (the capital of autonomous Åland) and saw the live creation of a glass object. One more thing I remember we did, was a visit to the Taffel chip factory – we all got free bags from there.

I don't actually remember where exactly I got this miniature. All I know is that it tagged along at some part of the journey, though I can't actually be completely certain about that, because I was there a second time on a football tournament when I still used to play, but I've always lived with the notion that it was from the first trip that I was talking about. In any case, without this tiny boat I wouldn't have remembered the glass blower and the free chips – how could have I forgotten free food?

I wasn't actually supposed to go down the memory lane – my purpose was only to experiment with macro photography as this tiny boat was a perfect object for that purpose. Like with some other macro shots, again I used a regular magnifying glass (except in the first one). It's a bit trickier to use than an actual macro lens, but I think it still gives decent results if you know what you're doing (or try enough times).

When small thing bring joy at pausing to look at them, those are the things worth happening.

So neat to see the images and take a trip down one of your memory lanes.
