Day in the life of a Fx technician, (photographic Journey)

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Today was a big smoke day, but I can't show you any of it here, but it doesn't mean the area that I live is not a beautiful and wonderful place. Here that some of the photos I took today!!!

What do you do for money, how do you work that way!

Special effects, isn't always blowing up vehicles, bullet hits and such, some days it's minus -28 and you gotta blow some smoke and fog, or something, for some TV show you've been employed for the day!

Today I'm working on the special effects team for a TV series being filmed in Alberta, Canada in the Foothills to the Rocky Mountains.

Then the moon came out!!!

Here's a picture on how we in the special effects world might bring smoke, fog into the scene. I didn't take any photos at the proprietary property of this production. But here's a look at some of our gear.

These two tubes bring smoke 360 degrees and around the entire set.

Smoke machine!!!

Here's a video of me wrapping out the smoke tube......

Just got this message from a co-worker, I guess I got one more day tomorrow in the special effects world.

Hey, buddy. Keifer has 'black plague' so if you were serious about bailing us out, we're a nice refreshing 10am. AND, if you want to bring the Transit here and save your gas, I'll give you a lift to shop at wrap :)

Been trying to spend more time on steemit, I guess I'll have to wait one more day!!!

That sounds like exciting work. My husband has worked as a Scenic Carpenter on 3 TV Shows/films and I loved following his progress and seeing the final results on TV.
Is there a lot of TV/movie filming near you?

Yes, there is a few thing filming in and around Calgary, and Heartlands coming back for another season. Right now there is another season of Fargo the TV show and a show called Wynnona Earp being filmed. Today I'm not far from where the Revent was filmed.

Did you husband change jobs or has the film industry slowed down in your neck of the woods?

He worked there for 6 months when the company he had been at didn't have any work for him. Then the day that his 3rd show ended, his old company called him back and offered him his job back. He's a union member of IATSE now so could return to the movies, but he prefers where he is for now. He finds it stressful in film, but I found it very interesting to follow along.
His first TV show was Season 2 of Wayward Pines. He supervised the building of 2 of the buildings, including the cinema. And he did the tile work and installed all the furniture in the Beauty Salon. Turned out that the 2nd main character was the Beautician, so it was neat to see his work displayed over and over in the film. He even got to stay for 2 weeks of filming and experience that side of it.

His 2nd show airs Spring 2017, TV Series "Prison Break". They build part of a Yemen Prison.
His 3rd show was a made for DVD "Woody Woodpecker."

That's awesome, yeah I've been working in this industry for over 20 years now. I have worked on many Productions and I am also a member of Iatse member. In my early years I work mostly in theatre Construction and build sets 4 Broadway, Cirque de Soleil, and Disney among many others.
More recently I've been working in special effects fabricating as well as onset work 4 Films such as Inception, Interstellar as far as big-name films. But many other smaller Productions such as Hell on Wheels and even Heartland.

Stress is a big part of the job, and the health effects aren't talked about enough or met with remedies that are healthy.

Thanks again for sharing your vaccine truth. I have been anti vaccine for some time, I should research this myself but the last time I took a vaccine was a tetanus shot. I found myself at the hospital for other reasons and still found myself getting the shot. When I got home I researched and found out that a tetanus shot was a vaccine.
I've heard rumors that people can get things like lock jaw if they don't get the tetanus vaccine when they cut themselves on metal. I wonder too if this is a fraud and poisoning metal workers and Carpenters at an unfair rate with disinformation. Is the tetanus shot necessary?

Tetanus shot is a scam ...
Here's an article I did on it.
Truth About Tetanus Infection and the Vaccine
