This Soviet Union era twin-lens reflex camera found its way to me from my homehome, and to my knowledge it was my dads godmothers, or at least her home is where it was previously at. I’ve been dabbling in film photography but I’ve yet to try medium format.
I took the camera with me to the city and ordered black and white 120mm film for it. While waiting for my film to arrive, I looked for youtube videos and blog posts to help me figure out how this mysterious picture making box works. For the life of me, I could not decipher what all the knobs and levers do. It didn’t help that some seemed to be stuck. I might have used some force to make them move, and kept winding and clicking for a long time until I felt like I could trust they wouldn’t get stuck again.
Today my films arrived and I hurried to the post office straight from school. I carefully loaded the film and after some hesitation, decided to just go for it. I took three pictures, and will plan on shooting the roll (which will probably be 12 6x6cm photos) fairly soon so I can have it developed and see if there is any potential on it.
I’m not gonna lie, even if it’s no good, I’d use this camera to take pictures through the sexy waist level view finder.

How awesome is that! Can't wait to see how the pictures turned out!
I’m pretty eager to see them too 😅
Ohh GIRL!!!!! Ya got the MF bug!
We’ll see. It’s terribly slow to use 😅
I used to have one of these before the war. Guessing your exposure is fun, 1/125 at f8 used to be a good balance in daylight for me. Great little camera and I'm sure you'll love the extra megapixels.
This is a film camera, there are no pixels 😝
Sorry, I meant mega pixies.
That’s what I thought. Those magical being that make the image stick to the film.
Indeed.
What a fantastic camera, I enjoy reading about your finds, keep it up.
Have you ever tried a similar camera?
Not like that one, but I still have my Minolta film camera, that one started me on my journey.
I’m working backwards from digital to film 😅
This is a pretty cool and interesting way to to present the camera.
Is it? I smell sarcasm.
I liked the image through the camera taken with your phone thing.
I'm pretty excited to see the photos to come from it! Knowing you, it'll probably be pretty good. Still, the coolness of taking photos while keeping the viewfinder away from your face, and hanging around your waist is a huge win :-D
The cool hipster factor of this is what I expect to be the best part of it, pictures just being a nice plus 😝
Lol, I dare say that being able to take a picture is an unintended consequence of simply wanting to look cool 😜
