A Bug's Eye View (Original Macro Photography)

in #photography4 years ago

With everything needing to be done now at work, it's been hard to find time to get out and take photos. Fortunately, I did find some interesting photos in the garden while taking breaks. Earlier this week, I went outside with the macro lens for a respite from staring at an ocular torture device (computer screen) and found these bugs on the milkweed plants.

Tuning Into UHF

An entomologist could identify them, but I focused on getting photos of them. Too bad they don't have need of profile pics. I think the one above might have been smiling! It's hard to tell with the mandibles.

An Up-leaf Climb

Where getting in-focus macros on my old Canon 7D required a steady hand, some photographer tricks, and a double-helping of luck, the RP allows me to get these little subjects in focus much, much easier. The auto-focus is far more accurate, and I can zoom the viewfinder in and see what is being focused on much better. The leave was moving in the breeze, so I can't claim it was easy!

Bee's Pincushion

The next day, my little friends were elsewhere. There were some bees around, but I wanted to see what I could do with these rather spectacular flowers.

I've no idea what this one is, but it is sure interesting. It looks like a pollen allergic reaction waiting to happen.

Flower Power!

The top-down view of the flower came out better than expected. I waited to see if an insect would come and check it out but, alas, nobuggy wanted it.

Looks like a red milkweed beetle to me, although I like your name of Dalmatian bug , too! Fantastic macro, and I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying that new camera!

They were so cooperative! Nice red coloring, too.

Great post, lovely work. Thanks for sharing.

Great macros, that first one especially!

Thanks! Whatever those bugs are, they were great at modeling!

Nice shots! Those bugs are so cute :)

I got pictures of 2 of them years ago, they looked like they were talking to each other on a piece of grass. They are pretty small. Gotta love macro lenses. I'm glad you found work tho and keeping busy during these weird times. Hope you have a good summer! xox

Thanks! I'm not sure what they are. It's the first time I've seen them here, but yhey were very cooperative! One of the first shots I got off then included two, as well, but it was a bit more than a conversation... Apparently, they use milkweed for mating.

There's a new macro coming out for the Canon mirrorless system. I'm considering it :-)

Looks like a red lily beetle I believe, Bahaha giving you a little show eh!! doing some bug porn on the side eh! lol funny you said that because when we saw the sheep, we got a little more than a ram show as well, lol. Still undecided if I will include the photo in my next post or not but I took one anyway because it was funny. all the others were fighting with each other and the one goat was like well while you are fighting it out....hummm...

Oh cool, that must be exciting getting a new mirror-less lens!I can't wait to see the macros you will get out of it, new gear is always exciting. I still didn't bite the bullet on a new camera yet, given all this covid lockdown stuff and the decimating of the economy I figured I better wait a bit.
