Where the gators outnumber the people...Anahuac, TX National Wildlife Refuge

in #photography8 years ago

Our family has always enjoyed spending time in nature. Whether it's hiking, canoeing, bird watching, or just meditating in the beauty of our natural world.

This past weekend we took a long anticipated trip to a National Wildlife Refuge in Anahuac, TX. Only about an hours drive from our home it made for the perfect day trip. Number 1 is also a 3rd generation Cub Scout, so as an added bonus he was able to earn a couple of Scout patches for our trip.

"Established in 1963, the 34,000-acre refuge is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, a national network of lands and waters set aside for the benefit of wildlife and you. The management focus of the refuge is to protect and manage the coastal marsh for migrating, wintering and breeding waterfowl, shorebirds and waterbirds, and provide strategic and crucial nesting areas for the neotropical migratory songbirds migrating across the Gulf of Mexico."

The refuge is home to 27+ species of ducks, coastal water-fowl, bobcats, muskrats, raccoons, possums, and an abundance of amphibians and reptiles. The most famous of which being the American Alligator. Even though alligators outnumber humans in the town of Anahuac, TX, we did not catch a glimpse of one during our visit.

Enjoy the photographs of the wildlife we did encounter.

Thank you so much for resteeming my posts! You have such a beautiful little family. That refuge looks like so much fun, lucky to have it so close to you!

You're sweet! This was our first visit, and I have no idea why we haven't gone sooner.

There’s a zoo about half an hour from Denton that has only rescued wild life and I almost love going there more than the Dallas or ft worth zoo. Even tho my fiancé did propose to me at the ft worth zoo. Haha shhhh

Hey, sis, so I just noticed that you've been doing well here on Steemit!! I did a few posts when I first joined last year and then more or less ignored it until about 10 days ago when I recommitted myself to writing again. I noticed that you're not writing a lot, but you're Re-Steeming a lot and getting good rewards from it, huh?

I took a break from writing, but plan to get going again soon with some new posts. I've tried to make a habit to spend more of my social media time surfing Steemit posts than other sites, because even resteeming and commenting can help to build a following, gain traction, and earn money! I've been listening to alot of crypto news lately and the price of Steem is definitely on the way up, so keep with it and good luck!

Yeah, I looked through your page the other day and noticed you have been doing well building a following and your wallet through resteeming. Amazing. I didn't know one could grow so much just through that. I agree with you concerning other social media platforms. I've been going less on Facebook, for example. I enjoy writing, so am going to focus on that, but I need to try curating a little more as well. Cheers.
