Choosing The Right Photography Career

With such a huge number of photography careers to choose from, how do you know which one is right for you?The first couple of things you need to think about are:

  • What sort of photography interests you the most?
  • What sort of photos do you tend to take the best?

If you can take the answers to those two questions, and then look through the list above of the different types of photography careers, then hopefully you’ll have a bit of an ‘aha moment’ where you start to realise what career in photography you might be most suited to.

Consider Multiple Careers In Photography

We’d all love to be able to focus on just one or two specific types of photography styles, but the truth is you may need to go outside of this if you want to earn a good living from your photography. There are going to be times when there’s just not a whole lot of work available, and this is when a broader skill base is going to come in handy. So while you should definitely focus your photography career in a specific direction, it doesn’t hurt to have some experience with some of the other types of photography as a back-up plan

Try And Map Out Your Photography Career

It’s important that you have some sort of idea where your heading – solid photography careers don’t just happen. You need to know what sort of business or job you’d like to have and then work out what you need to do to get yourself there. For some people this will mean there are certain areas of their photography skill-set that they need to work on.For other people it is the business or marketing side of things that will need more work.Whatever it is, you need to do your best to understand where you want to go with your photography career and then create a plan to get you there.
