Located between an elevation of 9,800 and 11,000ft these Ancient Bristlecone Pine trees are often over 4,000 years old. It was incredible to walk through this area knowing they are among the oldest living non-clonal organisms in the world. Add the amazing dark skies in this area and it was one of my favorite nights out shooting.

Amazing variety of colors in the stars.. the tree textures seem to harmoniously relate to the Milky Way patterns.

Look how the tree limbs pointing to the right have their image in the dust trails of the right side of the milky way!

unbelievable.. I'm studying the photo zoomed-in...

seems that you captured 4 meteors that I can see on the right side...

but it's kinda weird how the streaks are perfectly straight and so thin. Most photos of meteors that you might come across show a definite "light curve"... like it starts to glow, then peaks at it's maximum "thickness" before fading.

whatever those 4 objects were, that they were traveling through the entire 20-second exposure at about the same velocity and the same direction as each other. That is really unusual for 4 meteors to do that... and it's also unusual that 4 satellites would be seen orbiting together like that at such a slow pace.

Jus' sayin'... i'm always looking for mysteries.

i notice those streaks also... they seem to converge towards the same point maybe.

Sweet shot! We’re resteeming this!

Hi there! Thank you x3! I'm so glad you enjoyed the photo so much!

This is incredible. Fantastic picture of the Milky Way and that old tree.

Thank you so much! Being at that elevation and that far from any light pollution, the stars were absolutely incredible. Throw in standing next to a tree that has been on the planet for 5000 years and it's pretty easy to feel overwhelmed by the beauty there.

Stunning world and view from it!

It's it incredible? No matter how many times I sit under the stars, I'm still blown away by how amazing they can be

Beautiful skies! I wish light pollution would be a bit less in my area :/

Thank you! I have much better access to dark skies now than a few years ago, but I did drive almost 8 hours to take this photo! Try checking out www.cleardarksky.org to check light pollution maps for areas near you that would be great for stargazing!
