Tiny Jumping Spider

in #photography9 years ago (edited)

These guys are always fun to photograph. I say "fun" meaning that if you manage to get a good shot, they are interesting little bugs to see up close because they are sooooo tiny. Some people manage to get really close up on them, or maybe the ones here are smaller than the ones 'there'.

Even with a 2.5x magnification on 100mm lens, I still can't get that close. It's also really difficult to get a good focus on something so little, especially when handheld.

But my extension tube is on the way, so we'll see what happens there!!

The only kind of spiders I'm not scared of :)

Totally agree. Maybe it's their big eyes... maybe not lol

I love bugs!!! And one really cool thing that I've noticed is that they like to pause and pose. They will often just look right at the camera, cock their heads and even give you a profile shot. So many are not afraid and simply give their full attention in presence. Nature is magnificent. This is a GREAT shot! Thanks for sharing.

They are my favourite spider! Equally rewarding and frustrating to photograph!

Beautiful shots. I love the colours of the leaf against the spider. Superbly done. I'm amazed this is handheld though - you must have super steady hands!

upvoted !
They're very tiny tough to take a shot of - they're pretty swift and alert
Kudos for being able to make this clear a shot
and actually I mistook it for a female peacock spider till I read the title.

Hmm, well I'm no entomologist but I just assumed it was a jumping spider because they are very jump-ish. I googled peacock spider and I've never seen one of those males anywhere.

Here's another angle

@jamtaylor - they're both in the jumping spider's family
if this one is really a peacock spider (they're mostly in Australia)- the next time you see it wait for the male - the male is very beautiful - males in the animal kingdom are freaking colorful.
This one's very cute !

I like spiders and macro.
Hmm I like insects :)

Good photo!

Nice one - it looks like the same little spider I shot in a lens review I posted recently.

Edit: Here's my article with the similar spider. NB: this was shot in Australia

I love jumping spiders. The distances they jump have always amazed me. Cool to actually see their details here. Thanks!

Jumping spiders are the cutest spiders :D

These little guys are SO cute - these and Garden Spiders I can forgive the creator for... the rest of 'em...not so much
;o)
