Macro: Mushrooms / Pilze

Today I learned something new.

Heute habe ich etwas Neues gelernt.

Macro: Mushrooms / Pilze
Focus Stacking

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM - 13 Images

I've learned that good macro photos with focus stacking are not that easy to take.
Although I have often worked with Focus Stacking, but mostly only with landscape photos to get the photo from front to back consistently sharp.

Very simply explained:

Focus Stacking (Focus bracketing) means to take several or even many pictures, each with a different focus point, so that on each picture another area of the photo is sharp. These photos are then imported as layers in an image editor and only the sharp area of each image is displayed.

So easy - so difficult, because if you're not careful, then some areas might not be sharp on any photo, as you can see it on my macros, if they are viewed in full resolution.

Information

These pictures were taken during my last hikes in Slovenia and Carinthia.

Diese Fotos habe ich während meiner letzten Wanderungen in Slowenien und in Kärnten gemacht.

Thank you very much 🙂

These are more things for the winter, when I cannot go outside photographing. But I have to practice a lot, because there are so many blurred areas on the photos, but luckily, most are not visible in these downsized versions 😉

Thanks for your nice comment and for the trendo ... good morning JJ, have a great day 🙂
!BEER

Gidday mate
I am realizing I am turning into a fair weather photography 😂 I take so few shots when it’s grey or damp days and seldom indoors

Have you seen the new Curate thing Tipu is adding looks interesting

Gidday JJ 🙂

I like to photograph when the weather is fine, but I don't mind a cloudy sky. I don't go out when it's raining. My camera and the lenses are somehow water resistant, but I don't want to test it if not neccessary.

That new tipu project sounds nice, but I haven't read it all yet - ocdb has done it's job well. We will see how it turns out. Right now I am satisfied with my upvotes and I don't have to pay for them :)
If tipu curates as well then I will begin to like what the hardfork has done for us.

!BEER

Yes I dont mind cloudy infact I prefer cloudy skies its the rain I also avoid I dont mind it myself but I dont like to get my camera wet I dont trust water resistant either

I skim read the tipu details and its a good idea, I haven’t seen what o do is doing but so far I tam kind of liking the effect of the HF

!BEER

Although I was not very amused in the beginning, I begin to like it, and I do hope, that it gets even better.
That tipu curation thing is a good idea they had, but I need to read it all later on to know how it should work.
!BEER

I to have not read it fully yet but I will this evening and make sure I curate as much s I am allowed on it i understand it starts with three a day

splendid. I love most #3 and, especially, #2. very cool capture.

will they go well with some Guinness !BEER ?..

I think, they will go well with any !BEER - although I have no idea whether they are edible or not ;)

Ngiyabonga ngobhiya 🙂

I started doing this, just didnt know its named so. how many takes do you perform? I limit myself to two GRIP changes, sometimes do the 3rd change of focus, but mostly 2 focusing points, and 2-3-4 takes. it helps to enlarge sharp zone from 2mm to 2-3 mm -- a huge leap forward, hehe!

I have written the numbers of photos I have taken below the images - a few more than you do, but next time I will take fewer photos with smaller aperture. It's easier with landscape images ;)
!BEER

wow! i didnt notice the figures. 10? 16? it is too much to me, how do you stitch them together? I afraid its not possible in manual mode (as I do). maybe its some AI software doing the job? sorry if I ask too much, but this is my weak spot, I feel I may get some new know-how here.

or maybe its an option withing your camera? my friend @bambuka told me his full-frame Sony is capable of making panoramas automatically (in a special mode, I forgot the name).

Never mind @qwerrie 🙂
I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Photoshop does the job for me, because doing it manual would be a hard work, as you say. Ob course, after the automatic job, that Photoshop does, I still have to look for blurred parts and do some manual editings. Photoshop does a good job, but it is not perfect ;)

Thank you so much for your kind comment, @momzillanc, also for the resteem 🙂
There was not so much composition to do with the last shot - this mushroom grows on a mossy tree and this was the only side where I could place my tripod. The blurred thing in front is a branch of the tree ;)

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

You're much welcome @momzillanc 🙂
What you say is surely true.
I hope you collect the !BEER token, because I add one to almost every comment ;)

I don't know what to do with them. You're the only person whose ever given them. I'd never even seen them before you gave me the first one.

You must go to Steem Engine - https://steem-engine.com/?p=balances&a=momzillanc and stake the tokens. As soon as you have enough staked you can give !BEER :) More info at @beerlover's blog 🙂

I have no idea how that works – and it looks like work. I already work on my writing, art, and photography, plus my group admin for two active and fairly popular writers forums on FB, plus my writer activism, plus taking care of my little family.

It seems like quite complicated process, or is it done automatically by the editing software?
Anyway they look incredible.

These were my first serious tests with macro focus stacking. I have done it before, but just for fun ;)
90 percent is done automatically by Photoshop and the rest is looking through the processed image and do some manual editing, where Photoshop hasn't done a good job ;)

Image stacking is cool... Nothing like clarity...

Thank you for your kind comment @manorvillemike, I have to practice a lot to get the macros really clear.
!BEER

Hey @manorvillemike, here is a little bit of BEER for you. Enjoy it!

That second one is so weird and wonderful! Focus stacking is pretty cool! I guess you can tell i don't know how to do it lol :)

Thank you so much Ross 🙂
The macro lens has such a small depth of field, that I sometimes try the same as with landscapes (3 photos with foreground, midground and background sharp), but I make many more shots to have everything in focus. But that's not so easy and I have to practice it a lot more to get results which I like more.
!BEER

It's a great technique. I'm sure you will master it!

Maybe, we'll see after a lot of following photos.
Thank you so much Ross, have a great weekend 😀

Sorry, out of BEER, please retry later...

I keep on trying @tipu curate 😂

I have made two curations this morning and tipu didn't vote for about half an hour, but then suddenly the votes were done ;)
If the vote comes in, I thank you very much, and if it doesn't come, I also thank you very much and wish you a great weekend, @pixelfan 😊

Yeah, it works on and off... still new I think...
Here, have a !BEER while waiting 😉😂

Yes, I am waiting and then I will try to make some curatins again. They are working on the system and one day it will work fine ;)
And as you say, let's have a !BEER in the meantime 😉

Howdy sir johannpiber! Now you are forcing me to learn stuff. I never heard of focus stacking before.

Haha, I have always said, that Steemit & Co are good for education 🙂

Wikipedia says: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_stacking

The starting point for focus stacking is a series of images captured at different focus distances; in each image different areas of the sample will be in focus. While none of these images has the sample entirely in focus they collectively contain all the data required to generate an image which has all parts of the sample in focus.

Sorry for copy&paste, but I couldn't have explained it better ;) lol
!BEER

Focus stacking
Focus stacking (also known as focal plane merging and z-stacking or focus blending) is a digital image processing technique which combines multiple images taken at different focus distances to give a resulting image with a greater depth of field (DOF) than any of the individual source images. Focus stacking can be used in any situation where individual images have a very shallow depth of field; macro photography and optical microscopy are two typical examples. Focus stacking can also be useful in landscape photography.
Focus stacking offers flexibility: since it is a computational technique, images with several different depths of field can be generated in post-processing and compared for best artistic merit or scientific clarity.

Thank you little bot 🙂

That is a great explanation sir johannpiber but I think you described it very well in your post!

Oh, I thought, you didn't read my post ;) lol
I just wanted to add a kind of official explanation for you 🙂
!BEER
