Every year when full moon shines in May, Waisak commemoration is always held in the area of Borobudur Temple. Borobudur is the largest temple in the world that has been listed as a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO.
This temple was built by the Kingdom of the Syalendra dynasty on a hill containing 504 Buddha statues and 2,672 relief panels.

At Waisak, there are three important events in the life of Buddha Siddharta Gautama which is also called by the name of Tri Suci Waisak.
- First, was the birth of Prince Siddharta at Lumbini Park in 623 BC.
- Second, Prince Siddharta became a Buddha at Bodhgaya at the age of 35 years 588 BC.
- Third, was the death of Gautama Buddha in Kusinara who was 80 years old in 543 BC.

Setiap tahun saat purnama bersinar pada Bulan Mei, peringatan Waisak selalu diselenggarakan di kawasan Candi Borobudur. Borobudur merupakan candi terbesar di dunia yang telah tercatat sebagai Monumen Warisan Dunia oleh UNESCO.
